During the last stress test a few days ago I was comparing FPS in different areas with guildies and between 5 of us, three had similar enough FPS with a 6870, 670, and 7950 in the mix but owned OC'd i5/i7 proccesors. The other 2 guys had a 6970, 580 and C2D8400, AMD965BE respectively and their frames were markedly slower. MMO's all seem to crave fast processors and GW2 seems to be no exception.
If you have a microcenter near you that would be a good place to get an i3 or i5 + mobo for a great price. Then I would sell your 5870 (and old mobo and proc) which shouldn't be too hard since they are still good for bitcoin mining and pick up a 660ti or 7950 if you can swing it.
P.S. its really not too hard to install a new mobo/proc and it can be done in a few hours including the windows install

Well GW2 is multi-threaded no? His 6 core should be fine, especially if he overclocks.
