intel i5 3570k vs. amd fx 8150

Thread Starter
hi guys im new here and, sorry if this subject has been beat to death but, was wondering what would be better for pure gaming perposes...wow-battle field 3-etc...thanks for all answers in advance

3570k hands down. Single threaded IPC is much higher which is what counts for gaming. Even games that are fully multithreaded, like BF3 which could take 8 threads and utilize them, the 3570k is still going to perform very well. Plus you get PCI-E 3 support, Lucid Virtu MVP on Z77, and onboard video if you would ever need to use it .

For gaming you won't notice a difference or it would be barely noticeable at best.

The 3570K is the clear winner for gaming but admittedly you wont be noticing the difference in most cases if you're running a single GPU. But still, the i5 is the clear winner.

For gaming most people say not to bother with the i7 because no games use HT.

Actually there are a couple games that use HT. BF3, SID CIV 5, some RTS games, and the ultimate game that uses HT is chess. A really good chess program will benefit from HT.
Something like chess is different because you can subdivide the computer moves almost infinitely at every branch. As you move one chess piece, it creates whole new 'subgame' that can be solved recursively until the very last piece. This type of game can be divided to infinite number of cores because every subgame can be assigned to a new core and a game that starts five moves from now does not need to be finished calculating until player has made at least five moves so there's no hard limit to wait for screen refresh timer.

BTW. 3570K doesn't have HT. It's just a quad-core. The 3770K has HT like the 2600k, 2700k, SB-E, etc.
