Project Silver Feather: A Bitfenix Shinobi Mod - Page 2

Minor Update:

I've sold my Mushkin ram and put in an old set of 8gb g.skill for now but that will soon change. I used the money from the ram to pick up a new corsair Neutron SSD on sale. This is going to become my boot drive and the Mushkin SSD is going to be switched over to my games
SXqVY.jpg

I ordered a hard drive cage from corsair that I'm going to be placing just behind the radiator for 3.5 hard drives that will eventually be going into this. It's from the 550D and comes with 3 trays and was only 10$ so it was perfect
M6eeJ.jpg

I've decided that I'm going to keep the black interior and paint the outside of the case a silver with a metal fleck. I have it picked up and I've already tested it out and its going to be exactly what I need
tgNQq.jpg

This weekend I am going to be working on the shell of the case so hopefully I have another update soon. Also I'm going to be ordering some clear Durelene tubing to replace the UV blue I have now. I find the blue is a bit to purple for this build so I had to change it.
Now the only thing to do is choose a color for the coolant. So far it's a toss up between Mayhems pastel blueberry or ice white. Any suggestions?

Thinking of making a cover out of acrylic for the back of the motherboard tray to make it look all neat and tidy. Here's a basic mock up made out of scrap that I had just to get an idea of it

9AvZH.jpg

Other progress:

Started making my own panels to cover the shell out of acrylic but that became a lost cause. However I have managed to get some sheet metal and now know the exact layout of everything for the shell so that should soon be completed in the next few weeks

It's been a while since my last update but I have manage to get a tiny bit more done with it. I've been crazy with school so getting the time to work on this is becoming pretty scarce

Finished flushing the rads out

Unpainted mock up of back motherboard cover

I'm not sure whether to paint it black or silver but I'm leaning towards black. The cut out in the panel will show my 2 SSD's

I have a temporary set up with some extra tubing for a bit of the loop done before I put in the durelene

G6PBm.jpg

Going to be completing the loop this weekend hopefully if all goes well. I'm trying to figure out the exact order of components now but I think I'm going to go with Pump/Res > 280 rad > 240 rad > GPU > CPU > and back to Pump/Res

The outer shell is coming together but it is taking way longer than I expected to get right. Other than that, all of my components are here except for a few things I need to get this weekend (45 deg rotaries and a few misc. connectors)

Going to be picking up some sleeving soon too, just black and silver/grey, to do all the fan cables and front panel connectors. Also thinking of picking up a recon fan-controller. I love the look and I think it would fit the build nicely.

Debating on whether to go and sleeve my psu or just get sleeved extensions for it instead. Any ideas?

Did a little more with the build tonight when I got home

Swapped out the 670 FTW for an old gtx 260 that I got out of an old computer

In this you can see that the red washers really stand out, so I removed the 4 washers circled in blue and took a sharpie and blacked out the one circled in green

Another update coming soon!

After many attempts at trying to work with pretty poor quality sheet metal, I have decided for now to just mod the current panels that came with the shinobi. I will eventually be buying some good quality materials for a custom exterior but as of right now I am to broke to do so.

Poor Quality but it works!

Minor Update:

still working on this gradually, but school is really delaying this build. I have finals for the next 2 weeks so until then I won't have a huge amount of time for it.
Here's a bit of progress on everything as of now:

top panel hole cut for the 280 rad

Finished front

And some new additions on the way:

Sleeving

White led for the bay res

Stop plugs in flat Black

Also I'm working on a psu cover panel for the bottom of the case to help with the overall clean look I want from the build. Hopefully I'll have another update in about 2 weeks and this rig fully assembled and running by the end of December.

Long time since I last posted but I'm still working on it. Everything from bad O-rings in 2 of the fittings causing a massive leak, to limited time to work on this over the last month has put me a bit behind on posting my progress. The system has had a lot of work done to it since the last update but here's some of the pictures of it's current state.

LG3Fu8e.jpg
few cable extensions and sleeving

TwfOwvM.jpg
the beginning of sleeving

y1VprX3.jpg
sleeved extensions in place

Bugnd4q.jpg
no cable holes to pass thru and no sleeving, this had to be fixed

wccMj5Y.jpg

gJ7jKKf.jpg
much better

xaY1CkX.jpg
how the top looks

Also I didn't like the way the face plate of the res didn't match the case look so I decided to stealth it

xaY1CkX.jpg
drilling some holes to mount the res further back

UgeZd8A.jpg

bqN7t8Y.jpg

qpC7iz7.jpg
Much cleaner looking

To complete some more stealthiness, I made a new faceplate for the res that would also mount my SSD

qMzK3t0.jpg

021Pawq.jpg
test fitting with old SSD

MFnk8Nu.jpg
works perfect

I don't have a picture yet of it mounted with the SSD because today I should have time to paint it

cutting the acrylic panels was super easy using this saw
NyEpa3z.jpg

My dad found it being thrown out, and it works perfect so we lucked out. The cuts are very precise and super clean, no need to file the edges at all!

Filling up the computer for the first time after fixing the issues I had with the O-rings on 2 fittings. The fittings connecting to the res started a constant stream as soon as I added water to the res. Luckily I was able to fix it with extras I had and now its completely sealed.

ctD6WH3.jpg
crazy amount of bubbles (using distilled water only)

0Xu7RsW.jpg
the res during the bleeding process, the biocide in the water made it foam like crazy initially

KmbCamq.jpg
After bleeding for only about 20 minutes almost all of the bubbles were completely gone

Current messy state of my build

Future Plans for the build

VYVGS0a.png
going to be modding the heat sinks of the mobo slightly to a silver color instead of dark grey.

Also the outer part of my raystorm block is going to be repainted to silver as well.

To go along with the silver look my g.skill ram will be switching over to another build and I will be picking up some Dominator Platinum for this build

Also in the works is a PSU cover and a mounting point for my fan controller, and an I/O cover for inside the case

AdEaXJL.jpg

vfCYMpU.jpg
placement for rough fit

B63RPOg.jpg
filled in the gap with bondo

The PSU/fan controller cover will be painted all black with the logo in silver, while the I/O cover will be silver

Debating between these 2 logos

thoughts and opinions?

All that's left in the mean time is to cut the window in the side panel and to do some cable management in the back.

Also decided that the mesh strip are going to be changed over to silver as well

Today I got some time to get the res/SSD cover painted and Also I got the window cut out. I still have to pick up some U-Channel for the trim of the window and then I'll place the acrylic
