The idea with fancontrols

So.. What on earth is up with fan controls? I mean.. I own i 600t, and I love it. But the fan controller just seems pointless to me. Yes, it works as it should. Definitely. The fans get a whole lot faster and move a lot more air and all, but it's just not enough for ME to feel a difference. So long story short, I wanna know what use it has to put the fan controller on max (besides noise), when my temps don't move AT ALL, when it's turned all the way up biggrin.gif

Because some people don't like the noise at all. Especially when we are talking high performance rigs that might have push pull set ups with thick radiators. A few ap-15 fans are not that quiet uncontrolled, pretty much any good radiator fan isn't pleasant at full blast, because they are moving A LOT of air with high static pressure.

and not everyone is gaming 24/7 on their rigs, they don't need a leaf blower next to them

We are talking about a integrated fan controller here, which are stupid Lol. The 600T controller can support 4 fans, so it's really limited.

But I have to agree with the OP. I think the integrated fan controllers on cases are super pointless. On my 600T and my CM Storm Trooper, I don't notice any difference in temps. Maybe 2-3 degrees. Not even. I think if you wanted to really control fans individually, you would buy a real fan controller. Those are for people with radiators and stuff. Basically so you can have some fans slow and some fast. Like the guy above said.

Case fan controllers are dumb. Real ones are cool and awesome for individually controlled fans.

I thought about getting a "real" fancontroller, but I don't know if its of any use for me. I don't even see a difference of 1C in temps, when I put it on max. Not on idle, not in 3dmark11, not in prime95 OR Battlefield 3. So it's always on the lowest setting, no matter what I do.

But I guess fan controllers are for people with LOTS of fans and people with radiators?

Yeah pretty much for people who are crazy about silence which some are, and for people with very high performance rigs that actually require lots of cooling. If you aren't running a SLI/CF set up with a heavily overclocked pc you most likely don't require the cooling that would require a fan controller to keep the noise at a happy minimum.

You'll only notice a real difference with fan controllers if you use better/louder/faster/higher pressure fans... If a fan runs at 20dB MAX, and you bring it down with a FC, you really don't hear a difference because you can't.
On the other hand, a 50dB fan, brought down with a fan controller, you will see a difference.

In OP's case, getting a 5.25" FC won't do a difference. It's still controlling the same fans.

Integrated FC's only have a max amount of wattage too - usually around 15-25Watts for the entire unit(only some nice ones are per channel) - Just enough for the stock fans. (Amps x Voltage = Wattage)
If the fans are quiet enough at max, just put them on a 12V wire. The FC isn't really necessary.
