It's probably best not to come into a Linux forum preaching about how people don't use Linux. It's clearly an argument you're never going to win.

Some people never learn.

Why would I use Windows when I find Linux to be superior for 99% of what I do? Why would I use OS X when I find Linux to be superior for 99% of what I do? Why would I go backwards in terms of my needs? I used to run Windows; it failed me. I've used Mac OS X; it's nice but it's tied to Apple hardware (TOS-compliant statement there tongue.gif) and STILL isn't as flexible as Linux despite all of the heavy commercial development.

3. the vast majority of people on this earth ARE dumber then a bag of rocks.

1- I run Ubuntu on my laptop, and have used various linux distros on various computers over the years. Linux has certainly come a long way, but as I said before it can still be a huge pain in the ass in a way windows rarely is.
2- There's no such thing as a "monopolistic, unethical" business practice that would stop people from using a superior product that costs nothing.
3- I'm sorry that you feel that way; the world must be a terrible place in your eyes.

1. Give us some exemples, ie. bsod, memeory leak.. Oh wait thats windows
2. Sure there is. Google microsoft per procesor licenses in the 90s and early 20s. Also google microsoft anti-trust lawsuit
3. Stupid dosn't mean terrable. I know many kind, giving people who just don't have any real brains. Theres nothing wrong with that, they form %95 of the population.

It stands to reason, that linux doesn't suit some people, when its a god send for others. Why must these topics always slide into "mine is better than yours" type arguments.  Respect the other person for their opinion, something i had to relearn recently, even if you don't agree with it.

This so much. The only thing I have against Linux is the lack of game support, but even that isn't really against Linux as much as it is the publishers. But I still won't touch Windows, I use Linux for 100% of my tasks and it does them beautifully.

It's OCN, and here facts are opinions, and opinions are facts. A for my short stay here so far the Linux section was free of this type of stupidity, but it seems to be leaking into our humble section.

I am pretty sure Windows being less developed and less consistent and less secure are facts not opinions

Y'all are misunderstanding me, which is my fault, and I apologize for that. I like linux, I run it on one of my computers and I want it to succeed.

Haha I didn't realize which subforum I was in until I was a post or two in, which at that point I'm committed. (It came up in the new threads feed). Anyway I'm taking issue with the OP, and his sentiment that linux is superior to microsoft in every possible way, and that the only reason windows is so popular is because microsoft is evil. I'm sick of seeing that attitude.

You're right, I shouldn't have used the word "better"; I was over-simplifying the issue, again mostly because of the way the OP phrased his argument. The reasonable opinion is that both linux and windows have their strengths, meaning that they're each suited to different usage scenarios. I just get riled up when linux fans start saying things like:
