Help on my First Build

Thread Starter
I would to build this computer for Photo editing and maybe some minor gaming and video editing, but mostly for Photo editing. I would like the total cost to be as low as possible, but I was thinking around $1200 is the most I would like to pay. Currently I am at $1560. Here is what I got picked out so far:

CPU: i7-3770k $340 i7-3770 $310
MOBO: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO/THUNDERBOLT $250
RAM: G.SKILL Ares Series 32GB Model F3-1333C9Q-32GAO $165 F3-1600C10D-16GAO $85 x2 $170
SSD: OCZ Solid 3 SLD3-25SAT3-60G $60 Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2BAA $70
HHD: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM $100 SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200rpm $70
Optical Drive: ASUS Black Blu-ray Burner SATA BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS $90
PSU: Rosewell HIVE-650 $80
CASE: Rosewell BLACKHAWK Gaming $80
GPU: XFX FX-775A-ZNP4 Radeon HD 7750 Core Edition 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 $120

Display: ASUS VS238H-P $160
OS: Win 7 Pro 64bit $140
Mouse and Keyboard: Already Have

I don't think I will overclock and even if I did decide to it would be very little. Also, I think I would like to have the i7, a thunderbolt port and 8 gb sticks of RAM.

Thanks for the replys.

P.S. All prices from NEWEGG.

If you're not going to be overclocking or very little then you should go with the regular 3770 and save the $$ - also go with Nvidia if you're planning on using adobe tools as CUDA will help out quite a bit when it comes to editing.

I would go with 32GB of these. Similar price, a bit faster

As for the SSD, I'd take a Crucial M4 64GB over the Solid 3 anyday. It's more reliable. Microcenter has them for $63 right now.

If you're not going to overclock much, get the i7 3770 non-k for $310 on newegg.

For HDD, get the Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB from newegg right now for $70.

Do you really need a case that expensive? Stick your hardware in a Corsair 300r or Bitfenix Shinobi for ~$100 less

For GPU, pick a used one from the marketplace. They have some good deals there. (GTX 560Ti or 6950)

Which card do you think is better?
EVGA GeForce GT 640 02G-P4-2643-KR Video Card $105
or
EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) FPB 01G-P3-1556-KR Video Card $125

550Ti is a bit better

But don't go for those cards. Go for at least a GTX 560Ti

^This.

The balance seems to be a bit off as the price of the CPU is so much higher than the GPU, I'd suggest putting a little more money into the GPU and going with the 3700 (non K) as appleg33k85 suggested.

Also you could do with getting slightly cheaper case and then you would have even more money to go on the GPU.

You don't need 32gb of ram you can go with 16 gb and save around 50$ if you want a aires seris this solid and should hold what you need thumb.gif and i think you might even be able to come down to 8gb too this ram is also very good CORSAIR Vengeance. good luck with your build thumbsupsmiley.png

If he's editing, chances are he's gonna use RAMDisk

32GB is perfect

In my experience while using video game creation software the ram usage never exceeded 5 GB
