Yes, I had a Hard Lock with Quadfire single screen (DVI, middle screen, 2560x1440) after a c ouple of hours of BF3 the other day.

I just finished BF3 after a couple of hours of playing today and yesterday without issue on 2 x Crossfire (the two PowerColors) and eyefinity.

I think it's driver related. I also think AMD probably knows the issue by now with all the reports they have. I see so many people with that issue. I think they are aware but they don't know how to fix it.

Was that just using one monitor or did you have the other monitors unplugged from the video card?

I am running some test now. I edited my post with some notes from the VESA Displayport standards PDF file. From what I can read I am not suppose to have 3.3v power on the card from the monitors.

I an still testing will report back if I get a crash.

Ok, I had some Windows Update and decided to test my Quadfire again. I also decided to Overclock them, I was able to play BF3 online without Hard Lock or anything. With the hour I just played without issues, I doubt the PSU is the problem.

I will procede with a long Heaven test with stock Frequencies to see if the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable will have change something. I doubt but I'll try.

I took some pictures of my reading during Gameplay. Its aida64 readings (latest beta update (2.60) )

I OCed them to 1200Mhz core and 1570Mhz Memory (1.2v)

Core temperatures

Voltages under around 40% CPU Load

This page is about the GPUs temps and voltage under load (with the load 97-99%)

This is about each GPUs frequency, load and voltage under load, the 8033 MB is the dedicated memory used from GPU1 I thought it was maximum 3072MB ?????
The other BOLD voltages are the 3.3v Rail, 5v rail and 12v rail

I did a Heaven test, GPUs at stock.
-Quadfire 7970
-Eyefinity

After 15 minutes---> hard lock with no sound loop

Why I can run for more than an hour with the GPUs OCed and sometimes less than 10 minutes with GPU at stock.

different apps different behaviour . BF3 was stable while Heaven wasn't. Its clear that AMD's drivers for Quadfire are just not upto the mark. Is Trifire behaving similarly . if Trifire is stable across a range of tests then you could stick with that. otherwise sell 2 cards and get more stable performance with HD 7970 CF.

Have you tried reinstalling heaven? It can get corrupted from all the crashing and then it just keeps crashing. I've noticed the same behavior with 3dmark too.

Aslo try setting sync GPUs on Afterburner, so that you could sync those vcore on GPUs, maybe that could help. As for why u can run OC but not stock - I may have a theory that your GPU vcore is based on ASIC of the chip correct ? well based on that you get anywhere from 1.049 to 1.175 on default settings on 7970s. Now, if you're GPU is on borderlines between the higher ASIC and lower ASIC standard upon which the vcore is being selected by the bios, it may just be that well your GPU under high stress load gets unstable with that lower vcore even if bios dictates that it's tottaly cool to have that vcore. Can you tell us what ASIC % you get on each card ? and what vcore is set by default on each card ( when you don't sinc the cards) ? try settings vcore manually to 1.175 as stock. Also if they run 1.2v and OC, but fail at stock, that means that one/two/three/four of the GPUs just don't like the given stock voltage. While the techincally should work stable at stock with stock vcore, as mentioned above it can be due to ASIC bios assignment, the chip just leaking voltage. Anyway with water-cooling it's pretty safe to run them up to 1.2-1.25 ( I've read up to 1.3, but idk about that statement, 1.2 should be alright, since default volts on some of the cards is 1.175, the difference isnt that great in this case)

As for RC11 + CAP 12.7 3 - So far I've played some GW2 ( 1h session, 2h session) Serious Sam 3 ( 1h sessions and another 1h session), BF3 ( 1h session ), all games in eyefinity and maxed out as far as possible ( xcept for SS3 cause then it swaps alot) upped Vtt and VCCSA and tested my ram via memtest, and ( praying to the Computer Hardware gods, sacrificing ATI 9200, and spilling the coolant around for more grotesque picture) so far so good. NOT comming to any conclusions, otherwise it will all go to hell right there on the spot.

P.S. RC11 drivers are givin one bad problem though : DVI + 2x active adapters giving me huge corruption on third screen, trying to reproduce 1st screen. When I delete drivers or turn of eyefinity - it works as expected, when I set 2x actives + HDMI it works fine hmmmm.

Meanwhile, I've decided that i need to do something rather relaxing, and also improve on VRM cooling of my board and my cards. Sooo I've shoven back EVGA board ( now that it's obviously GPU/drivers thing) and ordered some new tubing, some sleeved cabels, and xigmatek elysium. I'm planning to fit two 360 rads in that case, and improve on cooling of additional components rolleyes.gif

Hi again guys,

Yesterdays after my failed eyefinity + quadfire test, I decided to give it a try with Quadfire 7970s a single monitor using the DVI to DVI port. (2560x1440)

Started the test at 10pm, I woke up at 3:45am because I was thinking about the test. Still everything was fine. I leave my keyboard at the first screen so I have the clock time to check if it freezes. When I woke up at 5:20 am to go to work. The time was frozen at 4:44am.

The test failed after more than 7 hours. I usually don't play more than 2 hours but I don't want a system that is semi stable and that crash whenever it feels like.

Thats a good option because two cards run fine in eyefinity, but I want the best of the best. I had the money to afford 4 cards, I didn't know about the drivers though. I went in the whole troubleshooting of my whole computer. Still no luck.

My Windows is pretty new from the September 4th, only one driver has been on that installation, 12.8 WHQL +12.8 CAP2.

It has not much to do with VCCSA or VTT, obviously you need to bump them a bit because of the stress of quadfire. Raja at asus told me its not much about those voltages.

I'll check the asic of my cards tonight.

Thanks for your post. I'll give much more details tonight.

Well I had a system freeze. First one in two days of gaming. Hmmm going to run OCCT and Memtest for 10h each I guess.

Upd: 4h of memtest. 12h of Prime done.

Question to anyone who read this thread : Do Active DVI to minidisplay port adapter should get WARM under use ? Cause both of my Weison Active adapters are warm when I touch them.

Thx in advance
