Are big monitors supposed to be hot?

Hi, I have a new to me 30" dell monitor, and it feels warm to the touch, is this normal for big IPS moniors, or should I perhaps put a fan on it to keep it cool

my 2711 was running hot as well and i mean realy hot i think it has to do with the backlighting

yeah, I've read that turning down the back lighting helps, ( i plan on peeling off the anti-glare sheet soon ) and once you do that you need to turn the brightness down a bit. I know heat kills screens, so i'm thinking of putting a computer fan on the back vent to keep it cool ( i have a fan i wired up to work off USB, so i'll just connect it to one of the USB ports on the screen )

Its a nice monitor, and I think I got a good deal on it ( its a 3007 model, 30" 2007) but no dead pixels or anything, and I bought it from a referbished computer store, and have a 90 day warranty on it. ( which does cover a single dead/stuck pixel )

thats nice tongue.gif tho i think dells are kinda build to last so you should be ok

none of my dells have failed over the last 5 years and all my samsungs have failed atleast once a year

yeah, this monitor is replacing an Asus, which was nice, but it only lasted 6 months before dead pixels popped up, not enough for a warranty, but still, very very bothersome

My CrossOver runs kind of warm, but nothing extreme... I wouldn't be worried unless touching it is a little painful

CCFL backlighting makes monitors run warmer compared to LED. It's normal.

my hp lp3065 runs really hot at times. would be interesting to measure it and see just how hot.
Yes. Think about it like this. Say you are drawing 100w+ of power out of the wall. That 100w of power has to be converted to some other type of energy because energy cannot be destroyed. Part of it goes into the light it emits, but a large part also goes into heat.

So ya it's normal everything that uses electricity will emit heat with a few exceptions.
