Upgrading a laptop cooler (NZXT Cryo LX)

I bought an NZXT Cryo LX laptop cooler about a year ago. Lately it hasn't been cooling as much as it used to, so I took it apart and cleaned the dust out. Once back together, I noticed that there was very little difference in the cooling capabilities (i.e. only about 1 degree drop in temperature). I also took apart my laptop and cleaned the dust out (Vostro 3700 with an i5 and a Geforce GT 330m) . I was thinking of replacing the stock fans that it came with (3 120mm), with some after market ones (2 Corsair Air Series SP120 High Performance Edition fans and 1 Rosewill 120 RFA-120-BL fan). My question is basically would this work?

Well, to be honest, I don't really know how effective a laptop cooler is when comparing your laptop on a hard surface (like a table) and your laptop on a hard surface with the cooler. Even though there might be moving air being pushed by the fans on the "cooler," it doesn't necessarily mean more is getting into the laptops cooling solution for effective cooling. These laptop coolers are more designed for if you don't have such an even, hard surface, such as carpet or a bedspread. In these cases, the cooler is very effective in offering more air in the path of the laptops cooling solution.

If you want to do/try it, make sure that you use fans that are similar in power draw to the originals. Running components off USB power is a good idea, but I personally wouldn't recommend pulling lots of power through such tiny gauge wires. I'm sure you can jerry rig some solution to attach the fans if you can't already. I wouldn't be able to speak on how much more effective cooling you will actually gain though.
