Thread Starter
max temp with hyper 212 evo is 96 C max load with prime95. not overclocked. do i need to reseat it? i thought i put the paste pretty good on there. minimum temp is 33C idle

by the sounds you should try to reseat it.. 96 C at stock is way too high even if you used the stock Fan and TIM. you know you can use too much paste as well or you didnt use enough. a rice grain blob seems to be the norm.

is the temps that high approx across all cores?

What were your temps before and after reseating? Im wondering if something may be wrong with my evo.

Maybe the surface that's touching the CPU is rough, thus not having enough contact? But Coolermaster coolers have good quality in general, so I think reseating will solve the problem. I've had a stock i3 530 go from 97C to 70C w/ Coolermaster TIM (what they give you when you buy one of their coolers) and the tiny stock cooler after reapplying TIM and reseating.

I used an evo with AS5 and ignored the paste that came with the evo. The cores run from low 60s to 70 degrees during IBT and 50s during prime and gaming. Not that bad but ive seen people running much lower temps with the evo at stock speeds.

Ive tried reseating it twice and carefully screwing down each side exactly the same until i start to feel resistance. Maybe it just doesn't like AS5.

Try the TIM that came with the EVO. But the paste shouldn't be making 20+ differences in temps.

Just maybe: what about PWM control in BIOS ? Try to disable it and than see results (if it's on silent or standard change to turbo)
