torn between upgrading and waiting. 660 ti , 670 gtx, 7970.

So i got my 27inch crossover and i love it alot and i'm currently on the 470 gtx and it works fine for League and like starcraft, but i had issue with guildwars 2 during stress test and planning to play wow later on. So far alot of people have been pointing me to either the 670gtx or 7970. Alot more toward the 7970 due to my higher resolution and the larger memory bandwidth on the card.

So far i have the gigabyte 7970 as the main choice if i go with that, but i have to shell out money for an adapter for my second monitor.

anyone have advice on which card i should look forward to getting or should i wait and play it out on mediumish setting until the new series come out.

Price i would perfer to keep it under 450. But ideally the lower is better.

I recommend a HD 7970 since your catleap must be a 2560 x 1440 monitor. At that resolution HD 7970 is the better option. What kind of adapters do you need to connect your monitors. the ref sapphire has a lot of connectors with its package.

Given the three options you've posted, the 660Ti, 670, and 7970, the 7970 is by far the fastest option there. If you want to save on the adapters, just get a Sapphire card. They come with any and all adapters you could ever ask for. Here's the one I'd recommend, although its ever so slightly over your budget:

The Gigabyte Windforce 3x is definitely a solid card (you really can't go wrong with any of the 7970's). However I would try to avoid the reference cooler styled ones, as it will be a VERY loud card. Anything with an aftermarket cooler will do fine though (just not XFX).

The adapters....yeah they can get expensive. That's why I'd say get the Sapphire Dual X and forget about them, since it comes with everything you could ever need.

ahh, how does the sapphire compare to the gigabyte in terms of overclocking? originally i was looking @ a msi lighting. but for the price it seemed the gigabyte was still a better deal and the cooler was better.

Any 7970 is going to overclock just as well as any other 7970 so long as its not a DOA card. It's silicon lottery. My reference Sapphire does 1370 under water, and I can get 1300 stable on air (if it wasn't summer). To be fair, I'd expect 1150...but there's a strong chance you'll get more than that.

An overclock upto 1150/1200 is pretty standard for almost all 7970. U can go beyond if the temperatures r tolerable on a referance card...

The Sapphire card raghu mentioned seems the best one, and has a bunch of connectors to suit ur needs.

The other option is the Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 Ghz Edition, it sits between $440 and $470, depending on who you buy it from, a lot of people are hitting around 1300Mhz on these pretty consistently. The board and components on it are higher quality, I just don't know if they binned the gpu's themselves, I believe they did, as most premium cards do.
