RAID 0 Questions

I'm debating if I should get a second SSD to do RAID 0. I've been doing a lot of reading. I just have a couple questions.

My mobo supports R0,1,5.
ASUS P8Z77- PRO V with Intel i7-3770K @ 4.5GHZ. (Probably not relevant)

I know you need a raid controller. Which raid controller is the best?
From what I have read:

Software RAID (Windows) is the least common method used.
Firmware RAID (BIOS) is the most common method used by consumers.
Hardware RAID is the most expensive method and is used mostly by businesses.

Should I get hardware or let my mobo RAID?
What hardware controller is the best used for SSD RAID? I don't want to be bottlenecked from what I've read.

For RAID 0 a controller is pretty much irrelevant - there are no CPU bound calculations like parity going on. The Intel controller on your Intel board will suit fine for RAID 0 with two SSDs.

For a simple raid 0 config your mobo is fine. Don't bother with a raid card for something like that since it costs an arm and a leg for  a pcie x4 card which would support the full sata3 data transport.

As long as you use the two gray ports for your SSDs (the SATA 3 Intel ports), it will have no trouble at all smile.gif
Seriously you don't need a hardware controller for RAID 0. It'll be a waste because it won't actually be doing anything! smile.gif

No what I mean is you would have to get a better raid card with a pcie x4 slot since sata3 cards with pcie x1 slots are only have a data rate of 4000mbits/s
