Well after you complete the port forwarding you are already halfway there!
Then you simply just use YOURDOMAIN.no-ip.com on port 22 to connect to FTP.

Setting up the no-ip client is easy, see here: http://www.no-ip.com/downloads.php?page=win

I'm not talking about port forwarding.

Basically your router will contact your dyndns service as and when your WAN IP changes. This is preferable to running the service on Windows which will just periodically update the IP. It means you have one less service to set up in Windows and also your dyndns service is updated with your new IP the moment your IP changes (where as a with a windows task, you could be caught out where your IP has changed but Windows hasn't got round to running the scheduled process to update your domain name - thus you'd be locked out)

This is why I've suggested checking on your router to see why dyndns services your router supports.

update:

i think i have managed to setup my ftp server.

i also used this

http://youtu.be/zWKE_vEs97o

i am not useing a dyns server to help me with my ftp server as i feel i do nto need it and also it is extra stuff that i know i will struggle to work out and setup.

now my current problem that i have, is i can not access it through a std windows explorer window (not ie explorer) but if i use filezille on my other rig i can access it which i guess it is a start.

now i need to find an app for my phone to get it all connected.

It's not a struggle to set up. You basically sign up to a service online in exactly the same way you'd sign up for twitter or any other online service. Then you put your user name and password into the dyndns settings on your router. It's really couldn't be easier.

However, despite asking you 3 times what options are on your router, you've not bothered to look once. We can't help you if you ignore us.

You wont be able to access it via Windows Explorer. It's not a Windows share. This was why SMB was recommended to the other thread when it was believed the guy only needed internal access wink.gif

Anyhow, Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer are so well integrated with each other that you can just ftp://ftp.server.ip into Windows Explorer and you'll still get an FTP view

I used AndFTP. It was the best available when I first got it (3ish years ago) but these days there's a number of equally good FTP clients for Android

Try Filezilla, that will work on windows 2008 R2, I also use it for an ftp server, works wonderfully :)
