Synthetic benchmarks will push the card harder than games, so temps will be higher. However anything below 80c is ok as long as the fan isn't going crazy.
$ilent, I see http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=56&sortby=manual_sort&subid=411&mfrid=40 has only PCS+ 7850 version, that version has better cooling with a bigger fan than reference design, it shouldn't reach those high temps. Check the box, if it's not PCS+, talk your way into replacing to PCS+ even with a little extra quid, it's worth it. It's also factory OCed to 1ghz

Don't skip through reply's, dont keep going on about TIM, Unscrewing, Taking it apart, Fan at 100% and still 400C
Get on that phone, and demand you want a RMA, video record yourself of you pulling it out of your computer, back into it's box, and cellotaped (Least you have some sort of evidence if you have trouble)
If anyone tells you it's normal, tell them your going to give them a Bum Umbrella when you get up there.
EDIT: Maybe you should video record the GPU Tempature, whilst showing the GPU inside your computer +1 more evidence.

If it's brand new, I think if you had not opened it, you could demand a refund right away. Since you opened it, i think you can replace it with another card up to a certain time right ? So if they tell you there's nothing wrong, then you can still replace it

Just an update guys, I put 2x 80mm fans onto the heatsink of the gpu, temps now down to 74C max whilst gaming. Im guessing this means no need for rma?
