can't get my sata working on P5B please help - Page 2

Reason I never buy "new" parts from eBay. If it's discontinued, or way old, maybe....but if it's available from newegg or another good e-tailer, that's where I will go.

To check it to see if it's spinning, lay it on an anti-static bag outside the case and turn on the system.....put your hand on it and listen, you'll be able to tell if it's spinning.

Be sure to set the BIOS for SATA if you're not using any IDE drives.

I don't remember seeing anything that allowed to just be sata.
all the sata config I have seen specifies IDE AHCI (or whatever it is) and raid.

I use SCSI for my boot disk so I'm experimenting with the SATA setting in BIOS now.
I orignally used the [IDE] setting which emulates a PATA drive I guess, but I wanted to enable TCQ so I changed the BIOS to [AHCI] mode for SATA. When I boot into windows, it finds a new PCI device, which is fine, but after the driver install, windows says it isn't working properly...

So I guess just still with IDE mode as a fall back.

Update: Just got AHCI mode working in windows. There were two drivers on the CD with identical names and versions, but in different folders. I orignally install the one from the folder with the higher number. That didn't work. After installing the lower number one, it works.
