XFX RMA ...not a chance

Hi Guys...

Trying to find out what the feeling about XFX and their RMA process is out there. I am having the worst time of my life at the moment and XFX are the direct result. Sent my card to them in June 2012. It was back screen crashing in all my games and benchmarks. Put it into another rig and did the same thing. In MemtestCL it's an epic fail with over 2miilion error. They sent that card back in August 2012 and told me it wasn't faulty.

just wondering what the general feeling is out there about these guys.

Thanks
J

Never had to deal with them...
But I've heard they're quite bad from a fair few sources, what card is it in question out of curiosity?

I'll never suggest XFX over another brand, especially if it costs more (I used to think they were good).

If it was say an older/low end card like a GT240 or something I'd just say forget about it due to time + shipping.. But seeing as it's a 7970!
I'd suggest to RMA it again, and tell them that it's not working from the last RMA. I guess you can only keep trying till you get a non defect.

I've personally never done an RMA, so yeah. I don't know much of the process.

I suggest sending it back with evidence. Screen shot your errors, print them out and give them a step by step of your diagnosis.

Make it clear in the attached letter that if you don't get this quite obviously faulty card replaced, you will be contacting your trading standards agency.

Make sure you keep a record of the documents you send them. Also take multiple thorough photos of the GPU, for reasons explained below.

XFX are an absolute nightmare for RMA. Most people refuse to deal with them now simply because they are not worth the trouble.

I will never forget the time someone on this forum RMA'd a broken card and he even took photos of it before shipping. They denied his RMA due to 'suspicious fluids' on the card, which was evident on the PCB upon its return, however the fluids were not there when he shipped the card. This indicates that it happened at their RMA facility either accidentally or intentionally, and they stuck the blame on him.

I don't think he ever resolved the issue.

It all depends on how far you're willing to go, however compiling the evidence and contacting trading standards is a pretty damn good start. They shouldn't be allowed to screw you like this, they have a legal obligation to replace their faulty products that are within warranty.

Regardless of the outcome, I recommend never dealing with them again.

It's amazing how they can say the card is 'fine', how the hell are they testing it? They most probably only boot to desktop and check for artifacts at desktop.

If the ticket and RMA was done through North America, feel free to PM me the information and I can take a look at the case. We normally wouldn't send back a card as testing fine without getting some sort of feedback on how to replicate the issue.

Our testing definitely doesn't just boot a unit into windows and call it good, we run many of the same applications and stress tests that are popular in the community; Furmark, 3dMark's, Unigine Heaven, as well as normal games.

Really.... pity you guys don't test the memory or the applications that I detailed where the errors were happening..... got it back and after hearing about memtestcl and running it the card that you lot said was fine, was actually riddled with memory errors. As soon as I told XFX about it you guys couldn't have given me a Returns Reference any quicker..... funny that....

My bad dude.... only saw the last bit of that message....been dealing with the UK dept of XFX all day today and a bit mad to be honest.... but for a start you guys sound as if have a better mentality when trying to duplicate errors......which is the least I expect from an RMA.

XFX here in the UK tested "everything" but failed to test any of the notes I had supplied them. but like I said... once i mentioned the memtestcl results they were quick to issue a returns reference.

Would have appreciated the help if i were in the US though....thumb.gif
