How are my temps with Thermaltake Frio and would a H100 perform better?

Hey guys, I have a Thermaltake Frio and use it the highest RPM profile on the fan possible. I'm at 4.5Ghz with 1.32v max vcore on i7 2600k. I have 27~33ºC idle temps and full load via Prime 95 the max is 65~66ºC. I'm thinking to pick up a H100 because of the noise of the 2 cooler from Thermaltake Frio spinning at max RPM to keep these temps down. It's a little annoying. And I also want better temperatures. Do you guys think a H100 would be a nice upgrade looking to reduce the temps and the noise? I think I can use push and pull config. here on my HAF 922, using 2 fans inside and 2 fans offside the case on the top.

And last question, can I use the thermal paste that comes with H100 already applied? Is it good?

Thanks for the help! thumb.gif

you can maybe get better temps with the H100, BUT you need to have the fans at 100% too in order to achieve that

and trust me, those fans at 100% are so freaking annoying you will want to hurt them;AND if you invest in better fans (4 of them as you want to go push/pull) you better step in a REAL watercooling setup.. or at least the RASA kits will miles ahead in terms of everything

What version of TT FRIO we are talking about btw?!?!

I suggest a better air cooler..

Alpenfohn K2 / Deepcool Assassin (1c warmer than H100 both fans full speed... K2 is quieter at full speed than H100 is at idle)
Noctua D14 (1c warmer than H100. .. D12 is quieter at full speed than H100 is at idle)
Phantenks (1c cooler than H100.. Phanteks TC14 is quieter at full speed than H100 is at idle)
Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E (2c cooler than H100.. SB-E is quieter at full speed than H100 is at idle)
Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme (2c cooler at 1300rpm and quieter than H100 is at idle, but 7c cooler than H100 @ same noise volume)

The normal version of Thermaltake Frio, not the OCK one. Can you tell me please which water coolers are better than H100 and the prices?

I don't think the fan on high will be louder than my Thermaltake Frio, but I probably will buy some new fans, actually I have 4 CoolerMaster Sickle Flow, they are really good to down the temps and the noise isn't that high.

Where can I find those air coolers? They are really BETTER than one H100? And how about the prices? Maybe I'm gonna buy a new air cooler, don't know yet. Which coolers do you recommend that have good performance and are quiet?

Thanks!

Doyll nailed spot on, any high end air cooler he listed its going to be better than the H100, in performance or noise OR both..

and yes, corsair designed those fans for pure Pressure and such, they are noisy.. A LOT, and thats not even counting with the famous pump noise that you could get.. or not (still dont like to gamble, i like things reliable thumb.gif )

EDIT:

pump noise:

Fans at 100% noise (the only setting that gives you any "high performance" cooling)

you be the judge

There's also the point to be made that the high-end air coolers needed to match the H100 are big, fat, space-eating honkers.
You can also use your own fans on the rad, not the stock ones. Something like GTs, Noiseblockers, even cheaper Swiftech Helixs will do the job just fine (and they won't make your ears bleed).

Not trying to hype the LCLC up to monolithic proportions, but they have their place and their benefits.
All depends on what OP is looking for in the build.

I think I will have a problem with my 2x4GB Vengeance RAMs, maybe the heatsink of the Noctua D14 won't let me use them, they are high profile and even with Tt Frio I can't use in the <<<2 slots here

I'm checking some reviews here, but I can definitely buy 4 new fans quieter than the H100 ones to use in it.

If you're going to buy 4x fans and don't want to break the bank go with the Swiftech Helixs.

They perform very similar to GT AP-15s and only cost $8 a pop from Sindwinder Computers.
Noise profile is slightly louder on them than the GTs, but that's subjective and almost a moot issue if you're using a fan controller anyway.

H100 would only be a good upgrade to reduce noise if you change the stock fans. You can use the thermal paste that comes with it, but I prefer to apply mine. thumb.gif
