670 vs 7970 @ 1920x1080

Thread Starter
Hey all ...

I know that at 1920x1080 the cards are overkill ... but I have a bit of a Red vs Green question as well ...

The 7970 is less than 1000 bucks more than the EVGA 670 FTW so it is obviously the better buy ... but

Does nvidia have any advantage over amd in the technologies it uses (physx for 1) ...

Is there any reason to go 670 over 7970 ? ... ... I have never used an AMD card but I am not a fanboy just never had the opportunity to switch to amd

All information would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards.

If youre gonna play physx games, get 670. If youre gonna play battlefield 3 get 670. For everything else, the highly overclockable 7970 is better

How many games actually have full Physx ? ... is it even worth focusing on Physx ? ... ... any other technologies where the 1 brand takes a lead over the other /

PS: Sorry for the noob questions ... Just want to figure out the whole AMD thing before spending 6000 bucks on a card ...

PPS: Both are basically reference design ... how will thermals be affected ... Can you still hit the famed 1300+ with the 7970 using a ref cooler ?

@ 1080p HD 7970 does not have much against GTX670. Also since you have been Nvidia you know ur way around drivers and such so GTX670 will be better for you.

In the end of the day @ 1080p you will not see much difference between the cards. If you value moany and HD 7970 is 1000 cheaper i dont see a reason the get the GTX670 then. Here GTX 670 is cheaper then HD 7970.

Pretty much this, even though the 7970 is more than enough for BF3 @1080 anyways

For now I have a single 1080 screen ... but I may go 1200p or dual\tri 1080's ...

Will the 670 still keep a consistent frame rate at those loads

:: EDIT ::

I don't play or plan to play BF3 ... but I will be playing games like, The Witcher 2, Batman AC, Metro 2033 and other high graphic games

You can fold on a 7970 right ?

With dual or Tri screens, the 7970 is better. But then again you need to evaluate which games you will play the most.

With these new cards, there is no good all arounder. They all trade blows based on different games. Although both are great performers at 1920x1080. LOL you don't need any of these for the games you listed.
