Asus EAH 6970

Thread Starter
Hello:
My question concerns GPU Overclock problem.
My first attempt at overclocking my Asus EAH 6970 did not end well. I was adjusting the memory slider in the Asus SmartDr. software, when things went badly. My monitor displays were filled with colored lines and eventually a BSOD. I tried to correct the problem by reading various forums, but was not able to get things back to normal. My cure was to take my computer to a computer shop, and they managed to get things back to normal. So this means I did not damage things beyond repair.

The computer shop technician did not explain how the cure was applied to my computer, and I am asking those with more experience to maybe shed some light on what was done to correct this problem. I repeat, no hardware changes were necessary.
I am very reluctant to attempt overclocking again due to the results that I had on my first attempt. What does one do when this kind of problem arises while overclocking a GPU? It would be safe to say that taking the machine to the shop is not my first choice. Helpful information would be greatly appreciated.

I have just discovered the forum "How to Overclock your GPU". This is very helpful and I will follow the steps and attempt again to OC my GPU. Thanks again in advance for your response.

Did you disable the OC before taking it to the shop?

Thanks for your response.
No, I did not do anything before taking my machine to the shop. The computer would boot into a degraded display. Nothing visible except colored lines. I tried to boot into Safe Mode and had the same results. I was not able to reboot and try to uninstall the software or make any changes using the Asus Smart Doctor software.
I would really be interested in learning what to do in a case like this.
Thanks
