Areca 1882ix-16 PCI-e 3.0 Card - Benchmarks

My new card!

I don't have much experience with hardware raid...just smaller software raid arrays. And there are lots of settings on this card that I haven't played with at all...but here are some benchmarks with 10 Vertex 4's in Raid 0. I know the sequential read/write are very fast.....but can someone help interpret the other's for me? Not sure what I should be expecting......

Any help and/or comments would be appreciated!

What's that port on the backplate? Not the SAS or the Ethernet ports, the one to the left in the photo?

It's an RS232 port for command line interface to configure the expander functions on the controller.

3.8 GIGABYTES of data writes per second. Holy God.

Nice results. smile.gif

So can you help explain what causes the dip in read/write speeds at certain lengths? I've still never had anyone explain it to me. If I change the length to 2GB, my write speeds stay real high...but read's still take a dip:

Would love to understand more the interplay between strip size, cache, and card settings. I'm flying blind right now.

I'd also be curious to see what the CPU temp on the card runs for you. I have my card sandwhiched between two 690's, and before I started tweaking the cooling...the CPU would routinely get up to 90 degrees, or even hotter. Right now, I've stuck a little 40mm Noiseblocker fan closer to the heatsink (instead of where the existing fan is), and that dropped the temps down into the 60's. I've ended up unplugging the areca fan (it's the loudest thing in my system right now) and even with that one unplugged I'm getting temps in the 70's now with the little Noiseblocker fan. The NB fan is very quiet compared to the areca fan.

I'm planning on adding some copper heatsinks in different spots on the card, and playing with positioning of the fan even more to see if I can improve temps further.
