Suggest a laptop for me!

Thread Starter
Recent events have forced me to require a laptop for work, but I am unsure of what to get. Battery life and running cool are huge requirements for me, hard drive storage not so much. The smaller it is, the better, and that goes for the screen too. The graphics card could quite easily be skimped on, I won't be using this for anything but work. Any suggestions will be considered! I have already looked at a Macbook, so don't suggest that.

The R60 would be an ideal choice. IBM has the best customer satisfaction rating in the industry as well as top of the line products.

OH NO! Please don't get a MacBook. They are horrible. They are Macs. If I were you, I would go to CompUSA and pick up the cheapest laptop there is (as long as it doesn't have a Celeron). If you want really small, look into Averatec and Sony makes a few of those so-called microportables. I have a Compaq and my mother has an Acer, and I haven't had any major problems with either. I'd recommend these two (especially Acer) as cheap brands. Compaq is a little better than Acer and their notebooks look pretty cool ATM.

I know people will probably yell at me for this, but at my school, they "give" you a laptop freshman year (and by that you give them the money and they pick a universal laptop for your year)...Anyway, the HP's that we've had work amazingly compared to the dells that they decided to get last year...You could probably get the lappy we have for about $500 now...anyway, long story short, good lappy, runs fairly cool (as long as you can get in to clean the fan), and haven't had any hardware problems on it

You make a pretty convincing point there. "They are Macs", what wonderful evidence. The Macbook I tried out worked fine for me, ran very cool, very small and had an excellent battery life. The Lenovo R60 looks absolutely fantastic so far, and under my price expectation too.

Edit: After further considering, both of the R60 series are out of the question. To get a Merom model (which I want) I would need to get a fingerprint scanner (which I really, really don't want ), and the R60e isn't exactly what I'm looking for.

Macs are awesome but they are weak on the video side however you said you're not interested in that anyway so thats no big deal. Macs are awesome i just prefer PC still since all my friends and family have PC it's easier for me to help them out.

Since you have no real preference I would go to best buy or something and just get a cheap one that's on sale with a decent processor. Last time i was there they had a couple of small ones for 500'ish.

You don't understand. "Just buying a cheap one" does not follow the unwritten overclocking creed, to get the best possible results.
