New PC problem

post #1 of 13
Thread Starter
I recently bought parts and built a new computer. It's now built but i am having a problem, all my online games have worst frames than they should. I have:
* AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad Core Processor AM3 3.4GHZ 8MB Cache 125W 45NM Retail Box

* Corsair CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9 Vengeance 4GB 1X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Memory

* Zalman Z9 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case Black 3X5.25 1X3.5 5X3.5INT No PS W/ Fan Controller & Temp Display

* Corsair Builder Series CMPSU-600CXV2 600W ATX Power Supply Active PFC 120MM Fan *3 Year Wrty*

* EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Fermi 850MHZ 1024MB Superclocked GDDR5 PCI-E 2.0 2XDVI-I Mini-HDMI Video Card

* Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB 3.5IN 16MB Cache SATA3 Internal Hard Disk Drive HDD

* Gigabyte 970A-DS3 AMD970 ATX AM3+ DDR3 2PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 2PCI SATA3 USB3.0 CrossFireX Motherboard

Offline it seems to be fine, but online, especially in cluttered areas, the FPS takes a major hit. The games in question are TF2 and Tribes: ascend. I seem to be able to run Portal 2 just fine but for the other two its just a mess. I have tried re-installing NVIDIA driver with no luck. I run windows 7.

P.S. if this should be in the in the wrong section i apologies, i'm new to this site and this seemed to be the best place to post this.

The PC seems like it should run those game's fine, so the only other thing that comes to mind really is your internet. Could you perhaps just be lagging from that? Make all sure all your motherboard drivers are installed too

First of all, welcome to the site.

Second, are you sure your internet is stable and good?

www.pingtest.net
www.speedtest.net

You can post the results of those 2 tests here and we can help you further.

EDIT: you could also try removing your network drivers and let windows reinstall them.

Also, do you run cable or wifi?

I run threw Cable.

Well those speeds seem fine, i get the same with my moms ADSL.

Did you run a test like furmark to stress your graphics card to see if it is not artifacting or something? Or check the temperatures at all?

I would suggest removing your ethernet drivers and your Nvidia drivers (trough driver sweeper in save mode) and reinstall them.

See if there is any CPU throttling going on during these games.  If you use an aftermarket tower heatsink, you may be triggering the VRM protection.

On your video drivers, use 296.10, instead of the 301.42 if you are using them. I have seen several cases where the 301.42 have caused serious performance issues with the 400 and 500 series cards.

I made a mistake, TF2 and tribes are also laggy offline.

I did a Furmark benchmark test and got:
score of 3648 points,

36182 frames, 40 FPS,82°C,

Resolution: 1280x720 (FS) - AA:0 samples,

FPS: min:39, max:42, avg:40 - OPTIONS: DynBkg

I also removed the NIVIDIA drivers and replaced with 296.10,
I updated my motherboared.
i'm still having isues

I would suggest removing your ethernet drivers
i'm not sure where i would go for that, they don't seem to be listed on driver sweeper. could you tell me what thoese drivers would be called or how to remove them?

Hmm...

I would expect lower results on FurMark if the card itself was having a hardware issue. Are you completely up to date with your service packs for windows? I would also change your power settings, make sure those aren't the issue...

Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Create a power plan, and select performance.
