Q8200 Heat parameters, questions, and HELP! - Page 3

Actually I can see how lapping is a definite help. This thing had a huge "valley" in it that took awhile to sand out. I used a perfectly flat piece of machinists marble and a piece of a green scrubby to hold my CPU and just went around and around and around......... Anyway, my temps are great (so to speak) and now that I have a fan we'll see what happens.

This is amazing! I'm on Test 4 of Prime and my temps have never gone above 65 and hover around 62!

This is weird. I ran Prime all night with 415 multiplier and decided to kick it up a notch to 420. Wouldn't boot, increased voltage, did same four times. I'm now at stock voltage and still won'r boot. So I decided to go back to 415 with voltage higher. No problem. Then started bumping multiplier up one poilnt at a time. Now running at 419 apparently stable (time will tell). Why can't I get that last little bump out of this thing? My goal is still 430. I'll have to research some of these other settings. I'm now positive that I'll have to modify a couple of them.

I'd say your at the RAM's limit.. Is it hot while it's running?

Heat's good, averaging 64-65. Prime has cycled once. When you say RAM's the limit, is it possible to bump it, or do I need to back it off?

I have to wonder if my graphics card isn't holding me back. My 6670 should be here today. Think I'll wait on it. I'll fire up at 400 where I was stable and go from there.

The RAM needs to run at speeds that it's capable of.. I'd say that a FSB of 415ish would be your max on it. Remember that 800MHz / 2 = 400
So running the RAM past 400MHz = overclocking RAM.
You might want to try over-volting them.. Possibly even try loosening the timings smile.gif

I just checked out a post on exactly that. But I also have some degree of adjustment in my settings which would allow me to set it lower than 2 x 400, such as 2.33 x 333 (375). I think I'll try it tonight. Gotta go to work now. By the way, I did install my improvised RAM cooler and I see that my case temps have dropped by 2. I'm also gonna mod my case for a 140mm fan. I'll have to use a grill to cover the hole, but I think that'll help. I hope my PSU is gonna handle all of this. It's a 550w, may need to swap it out with my 650 out of my other rig. It has way more than it needs anyway, plus the 650 is modular. What time is it there? It's 7:22 AM here.

It's 10:42PM here.. I'm about to go to sleep for College tomorrow!

Can you get a few pics of your setup? I think I know what you mean smile.gif
Also, what are you running of that 550W PSU? What type of PSU is it?

I'll check this at College tomorrow probably tongue.gif

Even if it was a naff brand, the PSU should be fine, though if you have another, better PSU available then by all means put it in.

The graphics card is not a factor in your overclock if that's what you were thinking, it will be what's holding you back if you're gaming though wink.gif, as it's pretty weak.

Loosen the timings, just the first four, leave the sub-timings. 6-6-6-18 as the other guy suggested should be fine. If that doesn't work you can bump the multiplier down. If it still doesn't POST then you'll know it's not the RAM that's the problem.
