External Power Supply for external SATA drive?

Thread Starter
I want to utilize a laptop hard drive that I will be swapping out of my current laptop, however I still want to be able to use the drive...

there is really only one type of power supply that I have found.... and those include ONLY USB interfaces to the computer...

So I need either of these (not both):

A power supply for a sata drive (or a power brick that will connect to a sata drive)

OR

A docking station (or the like) that will have a wall-plug power with an eSata interface to the laptop....

Any help would be appreciated. smile.gif

Laptop drives can be powered from USB!
I'd just get a cheap 2.5" USB enclosure for it smile.gif

Well that's just it...

I'm already going to be powering a camera and a microphone off USB ... so power to it would definitely be an issue.

Also, i don't want the interface to be usb... i want the interface to be ESATA smile.gif

thanks anyways though.

You're worried about overdrawing power from all USB ports combined? Even if that's an issue, you can just get one of the powered (from the wall) USB hubs.

Depending on your actual needs, here's a 2.5" enclosure with eSATA data and then a 2.5/3.5" docking station with eSATA:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817707175

Check around for pricing.

Thanks... for the life of me... i wasn't able to find those ... either of them... And I probably will buy a wall powered usb hub too. And the second docking station is more what I've been looking for, and in looking I found this in the recommended section:
Thermaltake BlacX ST0005U External Hard Drive SATA Enclosure Docking Station 2.5” & 3.5” USB 2.0 & eSATA
for $38... little more pricey... but wasn't really worried about price. But this one supports Sata3, and up to 3 TB instead of 2TB. Either way... Thanks.

Much appreciated.

+Rep'd you.
