Mount and Blade: Warband + Mods

First off, I'd like to know how many of you OCNers play M&B Warband, because it's awesome. biggrin.gif

Currently, It only uses 1 thread, but those of you who have the monster 5GHz machines should be able to manage just fine. biggrin.gif

The Battle Sizer mod allows you to have battles with upwards of 1000 men in each fight. The normal limit is 150 just so you know. tongue.gif I can currently handle around 350 soldiers in one fight with my 6970M and the i7-920XM and maintain around 40 frames a second without too many problems, also on fairly high detail settings too.

EDIT: It would seem that it's not possible to manage a 1000 man battle on one core even at 4.7GHz with an i5-2500K. tongue.gif Oh well.

However please feel free to share any mods with us here. I'd like to see what your craziest battle was that you won. I.E. Defending a castle of only 150 troops vs 1000. biggrin.gif I'll get mine up soon.

I was flat addicted to the game about a year ago or so I'd say. Seriously it's all I would play day and night. I even got online and played multiplayer a ton. Haven't loaded it up in a long time though as I've been playing various other games. I might have to check this mod out though.

It's worth it if you have an overclocked CPU. My CPU clocks at 3.2GHz for just a single thread and, again, I can manage around 350 man battles without any slowdowns.

I do happen to play the Sword of Damocles: Warlords mod and it...it's made of lag when you're on the main map. It's because the mod expands the map by around a factor of five or so... XD The base game is around 500MB and the mod is around 1.2GB tongue.gif Adds several factions from the older ages including the Imperial Roman armies...which are terrifying to fight on foot... eek.gif

The whole collection is on sale right now for the midweek madness on steam.. I've always wanted to get into the game.

Which ones would you guys recommend to get? I've heard that you should not get the original, cause Warband basically replaces it?

Warband is pretty much a polished version of the original. Also the original has no multiplayer and Warband does. With Fire and Sword isn't as satisfying because firearms are very unbalanced, and that's basically all you end up using.

My opinion: You can either buy all three to throw a little extra cash towards the company and keep them making good games, or you could buy Warband and then preorder War of the Roses which is basically a very polished multiplayer experience with a little bit of a different setting, or you could buy all 4, because that's what the archbishop would do....

I just simply bought the pack... it was cheaper than to buy the others individidually.

Can't wait to try it, I loved their demos!

Great series.

Still waiting for them to announce M&B2. (There is a video out with leaked alpha footage of the character creation from a year ago.)

Oh, and it looks like War of the Roses is officially in open Beta. If you pre-purchased on steam, you have access. Just noticed it in my library a few minutes ago.

O.o

This is a surprise to me. frown.gif Though saddens me greatly, I'll live... Hopefully they'll mod the game to use a quad core. If it managed that much then I'm sure I could handle a thousand man battle. However this is good to know. The L3 cache thing didn't really sink in until you said that. I can actually manage around 500 man battles with the normal game, but I just do 350 man battles because the Sword of Damocles: Warlords happens to add a lot of content and that slows down the game.

That would be my next request on the M&B forums. Make a mod that will change how the game uses system resources. I.E. More than one core.

And yeah! I saw that War of the Roses thing a good month back actually. biggrin.gif Makes me wanna play it sooooo bad. ^_^ The one thing that M&B lacked was a co-op function.

Last thing... Warband is essentially everything that the original is, with more stuff. Like how Forged Alliance is compared to the original Supreme Commander. And the mod I use for Warband adds firearms too as a standard skill AND they don't one-shot stuff. biggrin.gif Still... nothing quiiiite like lining up 50 hand cannoniers and watching them drop 30 charging heavy horses. wink.gif
