Need a new, good, cheap PSU

Thread Starter
hey guys, I got a GTX 480 a few days ago and have been having problems. I know for sure it's my PSU. So I'm out to buy a new one as soon as possible. Can you guys name any good ones under $120 that can power a GTX 480 for a good while? I've found 2 that are possible candidates: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341052 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371051 let me know what you think, and list any that you think are good. I'd appreciate it =)

I think you have listed two good choices andwould add this one to the list

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021.
(Well never mind - you just edited your post and added this.)

Enjoy your GTX480 - I had one (watercooled). Nice performer.

Capstone 750-M $88 w/ Promo. Hard to beat it. TBH, 550 should be fine (Like Capstone 550-M for $76), The TPT-550 not be enough because it's a ~6 year old unit and severely outdated.

I ran a GTX 480 on a Capstone 450 / i3 2100 system. Nothing wrong with getting more juice though, GTX 480's can be run-away-trains at power consumption.

Haha yeah biggrin.gif Well I can't buy them all. But perhaps I'll go with the one you listed. Someone in the EVGA forum suggested that as well.
I overclocked it to GTX 570 speeds which may not seem like much, but I consider it to be a first edition 570 with more vram xP

Thanks for replying smile.gif

my brother has a very similar system as yours, LGA 1156s, GTX 480 etc etc... a 650 watt powersupply is holding in his system of daily ~15 hours of gaming. this is what he is using and it works really well, i advise it smile.gif

I have the OCZ ZT 650w and it hasn't given me any problems.
My only complaint is that the cords are a little too short for proper cable management on my phantom 410

I bought my GTX480 the day it came out. Watercooled it the day I received it. Took it to 900MHz on the core clock @ 1.125v. I felt the card was really robustly built and with good cooling you have a large oc in your future.

I'd go with a 750W psu for your build. Yes, less would suffice, but this would give room to grow and the unit will be close to its efficiency sweetspot.

The Capstone suggested by Jagz is superior to everything you listed, the 550w or 650w would be plenty though.
