Wanting to upgrade my 46" 7 series Samsung LCD for something bigger. Found a 82" Mitsubishi dlp on Craigslist with stand for 1200 delivered. It seems some people love dlp some hate them...just seems like a great deal and I'm having trouble finding anything that's an upgrade for the same price point. What do you guys think?

I honestly love this cooler, but I think I'm gonna move on to another one soon, it just looks... A bit to bland compared to other flaming red (literally) coolers on the market.

The only other one I can find that I'd consider for the price to size ratio is this plasma http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIERA-TC-P60UT50-60-Inch-Plasma/dp/B00752VLBI
But I'd be losing a foot

It's worth it for the much better picture. Panasonic has arguably the best plasma TVs. I don't see the point in getting DLP anymore when it comes to long term cost, especially when Plasmas and some LED/LCD TVs are better in nearly every aspect.

If you have a bright room the UT50 will not be good. It lacks the filter of the higher end sets that help with ambient light. If you have a light controlled room it's great. Also if you don't like 3d or smart features the U50 is cheaper and thats the only difference.
For your budget I would suggest the panasonic st50 in the biggest size you can get. People and especially CNET are raving about this tv and it has the filter to help with light.
I would check out avsforum because they have owner threads on the UT50, U50 and ST50.
Basically if you have a light controlled room UT50 is great, if not ST50 is much better.
I just got the 55" vt50 and it is amazing.
