weird behavior of memory intensive app

Thread Starter
i had pagefile turned off on my ssd but i had some set on my secondary hard drive. i was running a neurona app which uses about 2gb of ram
i noticed my hard drive going crazy while browsing the web and i investigated....the app was using almost no cpu but the disk usage was high
so the app was using the pagefile instead of ram despite having over 4gb free for it to use

is there any way to avoid this behavior? i have a page file set on my ssd now but i would rather not have windows tear up my drives for no reason when ram is available

Disable page file? I have 8GB of RAM and never run into any problems with page file disabled.

some games, windows error reports, BOINC and other programs do need some pagefile, about 4GB is good start.
I use RamDisk and run it on that but it is not necessary, I only use RamDisc if I have 16+GB on the computer
If you run the page file on another HDD then it shouldn't slow down the main HDD?

You may want to check that you have the "keep in memory when not in use" box ticked?
and allow BOINC to use 90% memory all the time smile.gif

Yeah Ive read that some apps need pageswap in order to work. Not sure why, youd figure that would only be a last resort type of thing.

Deegon, in that last pic you posted, the "exclusive appliactions" tab. Ive never seen it, what you running and whats it do??

boinc will suspend if it sees a program running that you added to that tab

First, check the software provider for support since it is not behaving properly. You generally should avoid changing the OS to get just one program to run.
Once again...
