A very simple question about SLI

Thread Starter
Hello there, I've recently bought a custom rig and I was thinking about adding a second 570 Fermi but before doing so, I'd like to know if it is possible to run 1 card on a x16 slot and the other one on a x8 slot and still be able to run them in sli? I know this question has probably already been answered a million times but for some reason, google couldn't give me an answer...

Yep, no problem. The only problem with SLI is you must use the same GPUs, which you've got covered.

And by the way, once I have installed the new 570, what is the first thing I have to do?

Well make sure drivers are up to date, then enable SLI via the nvidia console. It's very simple to do.

Will look like this,

Then just enable it. Pretty simple. Not all games support SLI very well though, generally driver updates will fix these issues. Most games run wonderfully. For FPS games I disable SLI though as it has a tendency to introduce more input lag due to needing to buffer extra frames because of the second card from my understanding. Doesn't really matter if you play casually though. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, I have just heard this from others, not sure if it is 100% true or not.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Is it normal that there is no "Configure SLI, Surround, PhysX" in my nvidia control panel? The option I have instead is "Set PhysX configuration". biggrin.gif

I believe it doesn't become active until you actually have SLI cards installed.

You need an SLI bridge! If you don't it wont be recognised as two working together!
