XSPC dual bay reservoir/ D5 pump varibale.

Thread Starter
Hey, it is 3 in the morning here, and I and trying to fill up my water cooling loop.

There are no leaks, everything is fine in that regard, HOWEVER, my D5 pump is making a sucking type noise. The reservoir IS full, along with several other components, but it is still making this really obnoxious sound.

I figure it is just air bubbles, but who knows.

Has anyone had this experience, and how do I fix it.

Things I have done:

1. turn the pc on and off.

2. shook the pump/res to try and release any air pockets.

3: set hair on fire

4: ran around in cricles

5: went to OCN biggrin.gif

try to tilt the case upside down, or sideways just everything you can possibly imagine.
i had the same problem with a koolance reservoir and ddc pumps, had to turn my case upsidedown to release the air from my 2nd loop.

but first thing you should do is sleep, clear your mind, and go at it agian tomorrow after some rest smile.gif

dont plug the fill port just yet, let it run for atleast an hour and the air will eventually go out. once the noise has gone down fill it up again you prolly be able to put a bit more coolant in the reservoir then plug it in and run it, tilt it front to back and side to side to make sure that every single bubble is out.

I got it working!!! I played with the variable speed on the pump to get the bubbles out. As soon as I hear silence, I fell asleep on the floor. redface.gif

Now I just need to get my overclock right.

good, just a question tho, what kind of reservoir/pump combo are you using? is it the 5.25" bay reservoir (black)? coz I have that one and I haven't had any problems with bleeding air out. it normally takes me 20minutes to bleed it.. well maybe the coolant is at fault too, right now I am using Ice Dragon coolant and so far its the easiest coolant to bleed in my experience.

It is the dual 5.25 inch bay reservoir in the black brushed aluminum front with a black body.

At this moment, I look at it as an overreaction on my part. Normally when I hear that sort of sound, I kill the power to make sure the pump won't suck on air, but in this case I just needed to let the pump run for a bit.

I am also using pure water and a silver kill coil and I have never used anything different in the past, so I wouldn't know how coolant vs pure water would compare in air bubbles.

On a separate note entirely, I do want to point out that the fill port on the reservoir was not tapped correctly, so my cap goes in a little crooked. It was not me, because the pump/res was actually shipped with a crooked cap. It is not the end of the world to me, but I just feel like people should keep that in mind if they are looking to buy this item.

Angel, you have this pump/res right?

http://www.jab-tech.com/XSPC-D5-Vario-Dual-Bay-Reservoir-Pump-Combo-pr-4998.html

You dropped the kill coil into the res or did you place it in the tubing elsewhere?

I have the same Res/Pump and I had the same problem. That res dose not want to bleed the air out of the pump. Buddy told me to put a towel under it and back the ring off the pump, and let some water out. That worked perfectly for me.

Yes that is the res/pump I am talking about.

The kill coil is in the reservoir, however it isn't just bouncing around. I fit it to go in the hole for the inlet of the reservoir. There is a small hole at the bottom of the reservoir, and I have it lodged in there and then I have it make a big circle on the outside of the hole so that it can't fly around. You have no idea what a pain that was to do.

yeah I had issues with mine too, the inlet port threading doesnt go all the way up, so the XSPC Low profile compression fittings doesnt bite on it, but I used a different compression fitting on that inlet port and all is well. I run the same reservoir as you are but different pump, and didn't know you got the variable speed one, the best way to get out all bubble in the system is run your pump at lowest speed, that way air wont get sucked in again and leave the fill port open. what I did on mine since I don't have variable speed, I fill it up about 80% full, then tilt it a bit side ways as much as I can before the coolant start spilling, then when I see no bubbles on the tubing (I got clear tubing) i fill it up about 90-95% then I let it run 30mins and thats it, just have to fill it back up.
