ln2/dice for the first time... Does i5-3570k have cold bug.. Pot choice? Many ?'s

So The set-up i intend to go sub-zero with is...

i5-3570k
ASRock Z77 OC Formula
EVGA GTX 680 Classified
Corsair Dominator GT 2133MHz / G-Skill Ripjaw-Z 2133MHz
NZXT 1000w hale90
OCZ Vertex 4

- Is there anything i need to know with IVY Bridge well i guess Intel since i have never gone sub-zero?
- Anything in my set-up you that could give me trouble?

As of now i have the Dominator Kingpin Cooling Pot (ordered)

Things I Need help With
Which POT to buy - I almost pulled the trigger on a Piotres POT -
First i told him it was going to buy this one - CPU copper SOLID container (70mm diameter) Length : 130 mm, Diameter : 70 mm, Mass : 2.2kg - he wanted 190 eur
http://www.piotres.com/?go=4,ln2,000032,cpu_copper_solid_container__70mm_diameter_,

Then i was about to write him a new email saying i changed my mind to get this for the use of DICE also -
70/54mm semisolid pot : cooper solid base plus brazed cooper 54mm pipe - mass approx 1.35kg , base part is same as that from 70mm solid container.
Photos: http://www.piotres.com/?go=4,ln2,000039,cpu_copper_semi_solid_container__70_54mm_diameter_,
Price 110 eur

Then i ran across the Italian made Dimastech - DimasTech® ECO Pot V2.0 for $99.99 Euro (Is this pot good, i can't find anything about how good it is?)
Also for 82 Euro i can get a sweet test bench which will come out to about $325 US after shipping and exchange rate for both the pot and test bench.

As of now im thinking that there is no point in getting the 70mm Solid Piotres because from what i have read everyone love Kingpin Cooling Pot's and any one of his pots would barely be more than that Piotres Pot.

Can i please get some insight on what i should get and what would not give me a headache,

Is the Gemini and F1EE Kingpin Pots just so much better that they truly are the only pot to buy for performance(keeping a steady temperature)?

If i save money on a POT by getting the dimastech (eco pot v.2) or the cheaper Piotres POT i can also get a test bench. Or will these Motherboard feet/standoffs that came with the ASRock Z77 OC Formula good enough? I took a picture of the standoffs look below.

Heres a few pics of the soon to be Set-Up

ALSO VERY IMPORTANT HOW DO I GET INTO THE HWBOT OVERCLOCK.NET TEAM? AS OF NOW I HAVE 50 POINTS BUT MY FIRST SUBMISSION WAS TODAY/ YESTERDAY NOW!!

Hi

This is the one that i have - http://www.piotres.com/?go=4,ln2,000052,cpu_copper_solid_container__70x70mm__140mm_tall and i used DryIce to and is good. Because it is not that tall i had to fill up more often , but i am ok with that .
I don't understand what you are saying regarding the POT :
You bought or you didn't bought one ?

You don't need a test bench now. Just use an old motherboard box and you will be fine. Don't waste money

You don't have to go to cold with Ivy Bridge they have cold bugs. FTW420 can confirm this .

When you sing up it your account on HWbot go to : My Account - Teams - Join Team . Look for overclock.net and save changes.

I have not bought a pot yet, I almost pulled the trigger on the 70mm solid Piotres pot yesterday after a couple of days of emails back and forth between me and him but i then found out about Dimastech. So i wanted to find out from the real people that use and abuse probably every item i have listed above. So later down the road i didn't regret what i bought.

I hope this clarifies any misunderstanding...

You need to ask that question per platform, since the answer will change depending whether you are on 1155 (Ivy or sandy), 2011, 1366 (gulftown or newhalem) ect... For ivy on LN2 under -140C or so, there is a problem with not booting with less than 105 bclk (at least on Asus boards, but I think this apply to all boards).

Your ram will probably be lacking, though you don't list what the timings are, so hard to tell.

The might be a few different approaches to buying a pot, but I first think of money, aka how much are you willing to spend? The top of the line pots are the kingpin F1's and the SF3D infection points. Kingpin at least (not sure of SF3D) has development $'s and is able to tune pots for greater performance. Other good, more expensive but higher quality pot is the marksman that was developed by some of the guys here.

As far as the Piotres pots, they both seem to have the same base structure and only differ in the thickness of the upper walls (which may reason why one is heavier than the other). Neither seem to be suited for LN2 as well as the ones mentioned above because they lack the weight, but that is subjective because I have not used one.

Makes sure to get quotes with shipping if you are comparing prices. Vince (k|ngp|n) charged me $40 for shipping to Seattle, but also included lots of foam for free.

His pots are tuned for a specific purpose. He said somewhere that the F1 Dark is most efficient for chips that need -140C constant. He also said that the mass was ment for socket 2011, and the heat the 6core chips produce. With that said though, I have had no trouble with his pot on a variety of chips wink.gif

If you get a test bench, standoffs aren't necessarily as you will (should) be putting the motherboard on a foam sheet to stop condensation. With the foam, it can just sit on a table without a bench. The two level bench tables are nice though to keep stuff close, like the psu.

The Dimas pot is an older DICE pot design, and not really suited for LN2. The look very much like Kingpin's Dragon Evo pots that he used to make. Doesn't really have the mass for chips like Ivy or bulldozer.

Happy benching thumb.gif Let me know if you need some help, as I'm just in Seattle wink.gif

I've binned 6 Ivy's so far, and all ran full pot (-180C) with no cold bugs. There have been some reports of cold bug chips, but it is hit or miss.

Honestly, I know nothing about the Piotres pots. The only ones I have direct experience with are Kingpin pots, so they obviously get my recommendation. I used to have a Dragon Evo which was one of Vince's early pots with the goal of being very affordable. It was a pretty good pot but when I upgrade to my F1EE, I never turned back. This pot is great for both LN2 and dice.

In fact, I just finished an 8 hour session with it... I'm going to sleep now tongue.gif

I've binned 6 Ivy's so far, and all ran full pot (-180C) with no cold bugs. There have been some reports of cold bug chips, but it is hit or miss.

Im deveniatly going to be getting at you! thumbsupsmiley.png

Hopefully my first real session will be with you so i can get all the ins and outs and make sure i don't screw up any hardware.devil.gif

indeed! good luck buddy. As NoGuru said, definitely read up on insulation. find a method that works best for you. it seems like youve got everything else under control thumb.gif

oh, and to answer your original question, 3570k should not have a cold bug (granted you boot with BCLK of 105 or higher, which is easy to do and recommended). However, a few chips have been known to have cold boot bug

Asrock OC Formula just pushed a 109.56 BLCK on AIR and MY POT arrived today just can't wait to insulate this beast of a motherboard (Maybe BEAST CPU will find out soon) combo of both... Before i go any further i am new to Ivy Bridge a 109.56 Bus Speed is high Right?

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2500671

Also im tied for the highest Ripjaw-Z With that Validation also at 1460.9 MHz i believe...still getting used to the whole HWBOT...and cant wait to surpass on DICE/LN2
