2011 Direct Die?

Thread Starter
Figured I'd throw this in the open since there seems to be some scattered interest in the threads I've come across.

Bottom line up front: Does Arqtik have any plans to release a 2011 Direct Die block?

I'm planning and saving for a 2011 build in the next 12-18 months and I'd love to run something like the 360QDD quad block with the controller. Nothing stupid as far as overclocking goes, just want to keep the CPU colder that WC alone would allow for and I don't really want to get into the extra loop and mounting complications that come with chillers. I'm already looking at running four 480's in a TH10 so it wouldn't take much as far as additional investment is concerned.

One problem is that the 2011 bolt pattern is 80mm and 4 40mm tecs end up covering the mounting bolt holes.

That wouldn't be a problem for the lga1366 which has the same bolt pattern, but with the 1366 you can mount them from the back where as the 2011 you can't.

It's not impossible, but complicated.

It's not impossible, but complicated.

There are a few LGA2011 boards (RIVE) that come with a 1366 hybrid mounting. You might look into including this replacement mounting with the block.

EDIT: I think it only works with the RIVE... it looks like it needs additional holes in the PCB.

Oh wow, so according to the installation here that backplate can be removed.

So it looks like its possible to actually put a quad on this mobo then if I'm looking at it correctly. I just need through holes on the mobo for mounting.

Can you confirm which mobo's have this bass?

I take back my edit... looking at Google Images, it looks like all X79 boards can use this hold-down... it just needs to be installed.

Mind, if you can source the hold-down, you could include it with the 2011 block and anyone would be able to use it.

Hey bass, thanks for that bit of info.

Looks like asus is calling this their x-socket http://event.asus.com/2011/rog/X-Socket/

Formula's and extremes have this type of mount.
