I read up on the motherboard a bit, I read that it has two PCI-E x16 slots, but I couldn't find whether or not it'll do SLI or Crossfire. Out of curiosity, do you know if it can?
Anyway, keep up the good work!

Thank you. I think it does, however I will probably run BOINC on the GPUs. So if it doesn't, it's not a massive problem.

Some video compatibility list. I think some of those are dual GPU cards, and it says enabled...

That's actually pretty awesome for such a cheap board. I'm a big fan of any old board that'll run AMD and SLI. Understandably if you're gonna be mostly folding, it won't be a big deal but still, that's a cool motherboard you've got there.

It was the only board for the 940 socket I have seen on ebay with two full PCI-E slot. The rest have one or none. The board was the first piece I got, if I didn't get this board it would have been dual xeons.

I have emailed Tyan support asking about crossfire. We shall soon find out.

Interesting development, I am probably going to have to cut the side panel to accommodate the 212s. They are too tall. XD I might just get away with sticking a bit of acrylic on the outside. Depends how much room there is. I may do something more adventurous when the time comes to it.

Well I got an email back from Tyan support. They just liked me to the supported AMD/ATI cards list... Doesn't tell me if it support CF or not. Oh well. One way to find out.

I am also steering away from the 4870 X2's. Power consumption is the main issue. 2 of them is nearing 600w and with 2 95w CPU's there not allot left in a 750w PSU.... The 5850s or 5870s are more expensive second hand, but are much less power and just under/over in raw performance for BOINC.

So put some power through the board, one of the CPu's and 4gb ram. Nothing blew up. I have no GPU so I cannot get into the BIOS ect. Here's a quick crappy vid from my phone, as camera is MIA.

Goodness, those RAM sticks and capacitors only "Just" fit under those 212 Heat pipes!

I love used builds like this, it's fun to see how good you can get things for how little money. smile.gif

Yea, I got very lucky. biggrin.gif I might have an issue with the fan on the second one and the side of the case, So I will probably have to move it.

I see a few posts back that the side panel wont fit on over the 212's? How are you gonna fix that, cut a hole perhaps.

That would actually be pretty cool, then it would look like those car engines with bits sticking out the bonnet biggrin.gif

The side of the case has to slide on by about 1 inch. I am thinking of a full size window mod with some form of bent acrylic. If I can get some. Otherwise it's gonna be two holes. Not many places I can get specialist materials like that from where I live.
