Computer randomly restarting

Thread Starter
I just switched over from AMD to Intel and got a 3570k recently. I currently have it overclocked to 4.5ghz stable but my rig has been randomly restarting and it hasn't ever been while under load. I could be watching a video on youtube or the computer is just idle and it will randomly restart... I've turned off the setting to restart on error instead of showing BSOD but it's still the same...

Anyone have any suggestions about what it might be?

It's not BSOD.
It's just restarting

sounds like a unstable OC to me. Have you stability tested your 4.5?

From my experience too low of voltage or too high of an OC will cause instant reboots. As you get the OC/Voltage more stable you start getting BSODs or Lockups.

Might be temp related too. what are your temps at when before reboot?

I would rule out the unstable overclock first, but keep the possibility that your power supplie might be dieing in the back of your mind.

Certainly sounds like an unstable OC. Did you check the memory volts? Too low and it will just restart. Or if it boots but happens at idle, LLC , vdroop etc. you should check out the sandy/ivy over clockers guide on the site.

I've run prime 95 for like 10 hours and it wasn't crashing. This has only happened while I'm idle or running non intensive applications.
Also, my voltage is 1.315 so I doubt it's too low...

My temps are also only 30c on idle when it's restarting so I really doubt that's it either.

I'm thinking it might be my power supply. It's an OCZ 700w 80+ bronze so it should be fine but who knows...

ya, it wouldnt hurt to start by posting all your OC settings CPU/RAM.

How much Vcc you are tossing at it doesnt matter. Your chip might not be able to handle 4.5ghz at the Voltage. you may have to adjust. Im not a fan of Prim95 myself, have you tried 25 loops in LinX?

Have you monitored 12v rails on your PSU? anything strange there?

Remove the overclock and see if the problem reoccurs.
