[ET] PC obsolescence is obsolete - Page 12

Fun part was the Building and pre-planning for me

I loved to tinker for months overclocking.

With my i7 build ive been stock speeds since I redid OS for the SSD, and hell if I ever even noticed the difference.

That Why Im pretty certain this Processor will get a ton of Mileage before Im ready to swap out.

See I'm going to get a long term processor soon, the only reason i got my 960t was 1/3 Bulldozer Failure 1/3 Running low on funds to finish my rig and 1/3 OMG Phenoms are discontinued, buy now
I never intended to keep it long term and actually, if thing would have went as planned I would have replaced it months ago, however I decided to wait out PD, and heck, I might even got X79 if my budget allows it

and keep in mind, I am by no means well off, I started building my rig September of last year and it wan't even to the point i could turn it on until April, everything i have was bought piece by piece after doing odd jobs for friends and relatives

Oh no, the thought of having to Buy PC's liek that scares me.

I went from Well off self made to , lol..

I kick myself is the ass for helping py my mothers medical expenses for so many years, now they wont return the favor instead bougth a BMW and getting the back Deck redone.

Sorry getting into a bitter mood suddenly lol

Aaaaanyway, I do agree with this, and I am so thankful that I pulled this build off while I still could

Cus my old Opteron 165 was a great machine, but seriously cant be gaming on that forever lol

a chip the i7 with the hyperthreading atleast gives me a running head start in future Applications.

Depends on the game, of course. My 4870 has absolutely no problems with DX:HR with everything set to max.

now that I have a house and am slowly starting a wood working hobby on top of computing I'm glad older hardware isn't obsolete as fast
my sig rig wasn't top of the line when I built it (I think the first I# series chips were out and there was at least one higher level core 2 quad available at the time) and it still has handled everything I've thrown at it. Although I normally don't buy games when they first come out and haven't yet gotten Skyrim. It handled crysis 2 with no issues at all but my monitor is only 1280x1024. I did use AA but it might have only been 2 or 4x and not maxed AA. It's been a while since I've played it.

Playing the game as a stuttering mess isn't maxing.

Remember how everyone was saying DX10 didn't do anything in Crysis? Well it did, 20fps was definitely not stuttering at all when I was in DX10 mode.

I'm happy my pc will last for years with out becoming a usless paper weight. The one ting that does go obsolute fast is disk space- looking at 2&3 tb drives now as I fill my externel.

hot damn dude....

800mhz rofl
50mhz faster than Curiosity lol

Im assuming you don't do a whole lot with the PC.

What kind of wattage is being used by the PC in total on that 550 watt, do you know by chance?

If he's meaning web browsing then no-one really needs much more than an 800Mhz Phenom II quad, hence why Speedstep, etc are great ideas.

I will probably build a completely new computer in a year or two. Im thinking about giving my current one to my cousin when he graduates highschool. Will fix it up real nice for him if I decide to go that route.

If I dont go that route I may still do a completely new build just to satisfy my craving to build computers lol or I may just throw a new mobo in it, a 2nd 670, and liquid cooling and call it a day. Who knows.

I am glad that "older" hardware will last you longer.

Part of me agrees but the other part is grateful considering I can't afford to keep upgrading atm tongue.gif They might have slowed down because the economy is slow atm and the profits wouldn't be there if they did.
