I like that computer performance has been slowing down. Makes investing in a $2,000 rig worth it because it will last awhile and not go out-of-date in a year or two.

Nice, slow upgrades is nice.

Ditto, I probably wont upgrade until next gen consoles raise the requirements as my current hardware is more than enough for me right now.

Recently played Deus Ex: HR. It was a big shock for me.
My GTX 580 maxes it out at 1080p and in 3D and at stock 772MHz!
My overclocked first gen core i3 still tears up most (but not all) games.
DE:HR runs constant 120fps in 2D and constant 60fps in 3D.
I started thinking ... why do I even bother overclocking?

My friend plays Skyrim with Intel HD3000 graphics and thinks it's fine.
These are strange times we live in.

I blame consoles and the need for games to scale well cross platform. Not that I don't like maxing most ports on le laptop. I'd very much like the next evolution to be making good parts more accessible to everyone. Possibly we're looking at a future of Performance per Watt being the stat that matters?

I recently replaced my e8600 with a 3570k/Z77 setup. same gpu. Not really a mind-blowing difference. It unzips archives faster. Super easy to OC and runs cooler. I play games at the same settings I did with the c2d, mostly. To be fair the 8600 wasn't exactly a typical duo. I suppose I would notice it more if I played games like Civilization.

That really just leaves workstations as the only market that really needs regular advances in horsepower.

150% spot on correct.
