[BBC] Best Buy rocked by profit plunge - Page 16

The Best Buy nearest to me has taken a sharp downhill turn. The employees that used to be really friendly, have suddenly changed their tune, and act very standoffish at the register.

I miss having a Fry's around mad.gif

if they Go Bankrupt, I wonder if Systemax will buy out there E-Commerce and keep a few stores open like they did with Circut City and CompUSA and TigerDirect.

Well, a few things about that. For one, I live a lot closer to a BB than a Sears. I also have a Reward Zone card that I can use on the item that will get me coupons to buy games or music cheaper. The closest Sears I have been to actually have their stuff at the same price as Best Buy does.

Honestly, I'd rather shop at HH Gregg.

You know, even though I can buy cheaper online, I still buy loads of stuff from MicroCenter. When I first got into building computers in 2007, I went there and literally spent hours a day fiddling with parts. I could have nearly lived in there. I learned loads. It's a very special place for me. I kind of hate that Amazon is doing so well, it's not the same experience for me. When I build my friends or clients computers, I order from Newegg. For my personal builds, Microcenter. So if I have to pay 10 bucks more for Ram, so what. I get what I need right now, and i can return it instantly if I want to, no questions asked. To me I like the browsing experience.
So again, if it will keep their lights on, I'll gladly pay the extra cost.
As for Best Buy, I hated them. All the Salesmen gang up on you, and unlike MicroCenter, they know next to nothing about computers OR home cinema. The store is a joke. I work at Sears on the side selling TV's, and it's shocking to me how many customers are lied to at Best Buy. Customer comes in, wanting Monster cables. IO show him a cheap brand, and he looks at me like I am stupid. "Monster cables are better" Im like, ok, bring yours in, well hook up two of the exact same TV's and see which one has a better picture" Even after all that, he still believed that the monster cables will last longer somehow. Sad.

I'm totally with you on really like Microcenter but there in store people will try to sell you stuff you really don't need. I've noticed with PSU's especially they are really bad. I had a 700watt PSU with my old CF 5850 set up and I was a little nervous about it and I was just chatting with the dude in there and brought it up. He was totally trying to convince me I needed a 1k PSU or it'd blow. Yeah I'm not stupid man.

I guess the microcenter in Yonkers is above average then... never seen anything like that there.

My friend got ripped off from them because they sold the HDMI cables for $60. It's sad, really.
