Poor GTA IV Performance.. Whats Happening?

Hi all,

Just a little curious why my FPS are so low in GTA IV.

Gaming with Sig Rig as below ( FX-8150 @ 4.5GHz & 2 x 7970's).

Running @ 1080p, EVERYTHING maxed out but only getting an avg of 30 FPS!

Surely that isnt normal > any suggestions?

GTA IV is incredibly poorly optimised. its not a fan of ATI cards either. its not your PC its the game. sorry

lower the draw distance a bit until you get 50 FPS average so it doesnt stutter.

GTA IV will eat any system, same with Bully scholarship edition (another crappy rockstar port)
Rockstar simply doesnt care about pc gamers.

Throw GTA away and buy Saints Row The Third, that game will surely give you 60 FPS or higher

I only get around 35-40fps on my 6970 at 1280X1024. The game is just poorly optimized.

yup poop port is poo. I run it at about 60 vd with everything else maxed at about 50 fps avg. maybe a little more.

As said its poorly optimized for anything other than Intel/Nvidia.
You got it bad with AMD GPU and CPU. Sorry bud.

I have, however, had our driver team open a problem report on GTA IV. I'm hoping we can find a workaround for its incredibly poor PC optimization.

I have Saints Row TT & Sleeping Dogs, but GTA IV just keeps me coming back for some reason...

this game is so poorly optimized. I remember upgrading my hardware a few years ago from a 5870 to 5970 expecting a huge performance increase. alas fps dropped by 5fps on the upgrade lol!

This keyboard is beautiful. Its stylish and very ergonomic. They almost made it perfect if they had of made it with mechanical keys for hardcore gamers. However this was not an over sight for them....
