[TR] Sony PlayStation Vita sales crawl - Page 3

Well I think they're competing with the tablet market. Not only am I able to do tons of other stuff on my tablet but I still can play games and alot of them are $1-2-5....or free. Plus, I got a $25 gift card for buying my $200 tablet.

I think if u brand it playstation, you really need to have games that are played on a PS3, if not, its no different than a dumb-down tablet. If I could play mw3 black ops, bf3 with my bro's while at work on my vita, then it'd be a completely different story, but like we talked about here, they need to market to a younger generation if that's not possible....

Sony cannot compete in the market they designed the Vita for. Sorry, Sony. I can already see the soon-to-be 'fails' of the company:

- Price drop on Vita. Sales stay flat and/or drop because it's not the right market.

- PS3 drops to $199 for the holidays. Small boost in sales, lower margins, and people already own a console.

- PS4 releases for a ridiculous price (e.g. $499). Loses features you want (e.g., backward compatability), and causes an internet poo-storm.

- Sony cuts their losses, cuts the Vita and PS3 completely.

- Sony realizes they're doomed, make a legitimate smartphone to save the company.

- Said smartphone fails.

- Possibility 1: Sony gets bought out by, I don't know, Amazon. Doesn't matter who. The electronics portion of the company sure aren't keeping it afloat (TV's included).

- Possibility 2: Small dev team stays, Sony is downsized, Vaio line still available.

I have a Vita and the lack of games does suck, I only play MLB on it. There are a few potential good games coming out soon though, Madden NFL and NFS. I was hoping CoD would be good but it appears its a rushed game made my the same dev that gave us Resistance. Maybe they can they can make a good game this time in CoD...

Consoles, despite being outdated crap still do well with modern games because of the standardized hardware.
Also, tactile buttons and analog sticks. I've only ever had a tablet but gaming with a touch-screen was a nightmare for me. Basic RPGs? They're okay, any sort of shooter or input-intensive game? No way.

I see your point, but theres alredy some adaptares like this:

http://cellphones.techfresh.net/icontrolpad-turns-your-smartphone-into-portable-gaming-system/

This pretty much solves the problem, there are other ones, its a matter of time until developers start to see that they can reach a much larger audience tro smartphones then with consoles, lets not forget that the smartphone platform is starting to resemble more and more to the PC, where theres various hardwares out there and developers have to take them into account when making a game.

Two words: Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter was the reason that the PSP sold so well in Japan, and now that Crapcom is making it for Nintendo consoles (3DS and Wii), Sony is missing out. Sony should have made a deal for exclusive rights to Monster Hunter when it had the chance. At this rate, it's gonna stay on Nintendo and I'm never gonna play it again mad.gif

It was expected that the Vita wasn't going to do any better than the 3DS, to be honest.

If the 3DS has issues selling, and it is the world's first autostereoscopic 3D console... One can wonder about the Vita, a PSP with enlargened touchscreen and good graphics.

@Dudanian: I'm biting my nails! Can't wait for the next MH to release biggrin.gif

Lower the price of it and wait until GTA5 (hopefully) and the next COD game come out for it. Sale should rocket up then.

So my thing is being able to play multiplayer games with friends on it...I saw the E3 game play of the COD where there's gonna be 4 vs 4 online mode??? Kinda lame, can they not support 12 vs 12 or 16 vs 16? Also what's the average life time of a PS Vita server for multiplayer? Cause I know they took down PSP multiplayer servers a couple of years after the game was released....
