Is nVidia holding back with TXAA

This new feature of giving beyond 8xMSAA at a much less cost is apparently only available on 6xx series Keplar cards but why is this?

I see no reason why this technique which is too be implemented on a game developers side of things couldn't work on earlier series cards just like FXAA is able too.

Is this just nVidia holding back to try and give customers a reason to buy/upgrade to their current season cards? or what is it in the Keplars that allows it too use TXAA that other cards don't have?

The feature is present in The Secret World and IMO, I don't like it. The performance is ridiculously slow, and the IQ is not as good as 8x MSAA IMO. It is very blurry.

My performance also crawls with 4X TXAA with MSI lightning 680 SLI. You're not missing anything, trust me....

So is it much better quality wise than FXAA? I'm guessing then there's a massive performance hit over it?

FXAA has been a nice life saver in getting as maximum performance at high resolutions with minimal performance hit

I can tell you that I cannot stand TXAA. Quality wise, it definitely covers up aliasing better (compared to FXAA) but at the expense of having a crisp image. The jury is still out though - so far only one game supports TXAA. Hopefully more games in the future will have it.

It does look pretty terrible in Secret World. The blurring reminds me of quincunx.
