Does anyone here have random NVIDIA driver crashes with W8? I'm on the latest beta drivers and my screen randomly flashes black with a driver crash. I've tried older drivers as well.

Well Windows 8 uses a newer driver model (WDMM 1.2 vs WDMM 1.1 on Windows 7) so of course Windows 8 will get better fps in stuff

But driver support for Windows 8 is immature, and no using some driver than says Win8/Win7/Vista is not as good, as it won't be for a few months until nVidia and AMD make better drivers for Windows 8 that use it to its fullest

I really hope they release new drivers very soon, like NOW (within the next week). The crashes I'm having are annoying and they're due for new drivers after W8 went RTM.

Ive got the opposite problem. My nvidia drivers were crashing before RTM. I havent had one since. Although I havent had time to use it much.

I'd like to see some graphs of these "smoother framerates" claims because that sounds like a placebo considering these results.

The smoother feel might be from the really high but very stable 1000 DPC latency in windows 8. On 7 and below the DPC latency will be really low at idle but can spike to higher numbers when playing games.

For a home machine (or a "secondary" machine in particular ... in my case), it might very well be worth upgrading for $40 ... even if you just "upgrade", but don't install it for awhile. After February, the price to upgrade jumps up in cost dramatically.

So basically, unless nVidia and AMD start releasing better drivers between now and the end of January, it may not be the wisest course to actually install the OS unless you like dealing with random crashes. If they don't fix their drivers before February, then you may as well just "pass" on Windows 8 until they do, because you are going to be paying a whole lot more than $40 for the upgrade price anyway.

But so far, with current drivers, even the RTM copies of Windows 8 show little or no real performance gains over Windows 7 when you look at hard numbers. This could very well change (and most likely will), but how long that will be and how much you will have to pay for an upgrade, is the unknown.
