Safe Voltage for i5-3570K?

Thread Starter
So I got my new processor, and after thinking it wouldnt boot at 4.5, i realised i was using the wrong voltage wink.gif

So finally, i put the voltage up to 1.3v (CPU-Z says 1.272v at load), and it will boot at 4.9 and nearly at 5. Im just wondering what the safe voltage is on the 3570k, I have temps of around 60 at load, well, 53,57,61 and 59.

So far I've only changed the cpu voltage and LLC (level 2), any tips on safe voltage/OC'ing IB and maybe getting 4.9ghz stable? biggrin.gif

Most are saying 1.35-1.4v on air.
Mine's at 1.36v 24/7, can't get any higher than 4.8GHz on mine.

are you on AIR?? getting almost 5 GHz on air is pretty impressive..those load temps are my 4-3-4.4 temps I think...my 4.7 is semi-stable and is low-mid 80 degrees under load...I run daily at 4.6 GHz

I've read 1.4v max using air cooling

Not necessarily, I have a Xigmatek Dark Knight II cooler and its only running 2-3 Degrees warmer under load then my H100 was. It also beats out my older Nactua D-14 as well as H80i. Very Impressive for a Air cooler and goes to show you dont HAVE to have a 120+$ Closed loop system just to preform a respectable OC.

Right now on my project i5 3570k rig Im hitting 68C load with AIDA64 and PRIME95 with a 4.7Ghz OC @ 1.32v

What ? No way. Even NH-D14 is in high 70´s, peaking around 80-81 at 4.8GHZ @ 1.28V in Prime95 Blend.

^ I believe it (and I'm assuming he's properly temp testing by using small fft or the max temp in blend after 8 fft length, ie 30minutes+). 70*C for 4.7@1.3 really doesn't sound too far off.

My max temp with 5ghz@1.53v was 88*C with an nh-d14 with push/140/140, 5 case fans, delid, and CLU. 300mhz lower and .2v less sounds like 20*C. 4.5ghz@1.3v, my max temp was 75*C - and that was before I put on a 3rd 140mm fan, and before I put coollaboratory liquid ultra on-die and on-ihs (which gave me an 8*C temp drop). So given my fan (3*C) and clu (8*C), I'm sure I'd probably do 4.5ghz@1.3v at 64*C max temp right now.

So finally, i put the voltage up to 1.3v (CPU-Z says 1.272v at load), and it will boot at 4.9 and nearly at 5. Im just wondering what the safe voltage is on the 3570k, I have temps of around 60 at load, well, 53,57,61 and 59.

Being able to boot and 24 hours prime95 stable is a lot different. I can do some pretty crazy stuff if we're just going by booting (5.1ghz@1.3v) or 50 passes IBT (5ghz@1.45v) or 12 hours of prime95 (5ghz@1.5v). Takes a lot more for me to be 24 hour prime95 stable (i'll likely need something like 1.52-1.55v for 5ghz).

Very few chips can overclock and do 24 hours stable on much more than 4.5-4.6ghz on reasonable voltage. A good way to see how good your chip is, is put it at 1.3v. Then use a software program and increase your frequency. See how far you can get before it refuses to take a value/bsod's/resets/etc. A good chip can go all the way up to 5ghz, a great chip can do further. A bad chip does like 4.7ghz, 4.8.
