Thanks ;]

Yep. When you die, the previous bloodstain is wiped, and a new one is made containing the amount of souls\humanity you were carrying at time of death.

Another note- having a humanity in your counter increases your chance of finding items when you kill a monster, as well as your defense. Having 1 humanity up gives you a very notable increase over 0. I'd recommend trying to keep 1 up there if possible... not worth it if you are dying tons and will loose the bloodstain regularly though.

You might call dying a core game mechanic of Dark Souls. You're supposed to die, and that's why you respawn instead of getting a "game Over" type of message.

Basically when you die, you leave a bloodstain (with a green glowin orb over it.) You lose all the souls you've collected, as well as any Humanity you had. Note: The ITEM versions of souls that you pick up (ie. soul of a nameless soldier - large soul of an undead - etc etc) will also be gone if you fail to recover your bloodstain.

Basically if you can retrieve your bloodstain, you wanna do that asap. Don't worry about it if you lose your souls though -- enemies respawn indefinitely for a reason. It's impossible to screw up in a way that requires you to restart the game.

If you're having trouble in a particular area / with a particular NPC -- farm souls from easier mobs for an hour or so, level up and buy some gear, then go try again.

MANY ENEMIES YOU MIGHT SEE EARLY ARE NOT MEANT TO BE FOUGHT UNTIL YOUR ROUGHLY SOUL LEVEL 25. I don't suggest attempting to kill any of the Black Knights til you're at least level 20, as they will one-shot you otherwise.

For example when I tried to kill the first black knight when I was level 15 I get WRECKED. The difference between levels 15 and 21 was HUGE though, and I destroyed 2 black knights in row with relative ease.

No it's not. The item that contain soul aren't lost neither is the item of humanity.

You also get better with more playing experience. The second time through, some enemies that seemed impossible will be fairly easy, even when you are a low level.

So true, it took me what felt like 100 tries to defeat the gargoyles my first time playing, the second I beat them first try. The game is hard for sure but its not impossible.
