Building a new rig. Advice greatly appreciated. - Page 2

For gaming only I'd definitely recommend a:

3570k/3770k

along with this board. Asus boards in general are pretty good so I don't see a bad choice from you posted, entirely up to you. Gigabyte is also a great option, don't overlook them.

Quality 850w PSU (more than enough juice for SLI as stated already, 1000w is totally unecessary) I recommend a Corsair psu

H100, excellent cooler. Corsair also has a excellent 5 yr warranty & will reimburse u if the unit god forbids does any damage to ur components. Using a closed loop unit as opposed to a large air cooler (NH-D14) is it makes working in your case alot easier & also less stress on your mobo. It looks cooler too imo

16GB of ram is alot, but ram is so cheap nowadays so go for it.

I agree with a 256GB ssd, Samsung, Intel, Kingston, Corsair.

Good choice on the case, it's very roomy & has great features thumb.gif

For a more specific SSD choice, a Crucial M4 or Samsung 830 (I have this), are by far the best options right now.

I changed the PSU to the 800 which saves me about $30. Should I go with a Corsair PSU instead of the Coolermaster silent pro gold?

I really want the h100, but the pump grinding issues, worried me. I like the look of it better no doubt.

Im going to go with the samsung ssd to avoid issues.

thanks for the compliement on the case. I really like the white. I honestly think most of the boards I chose were very expensive. Just not real sure which one I would be ok with. If I go the z77 route, I would try to save money by getting a cheaper board, but the 3770k is about $40 more than the 3820. Is there any other boards you would recommend.

Go with SeaSonic, Antec, or Corsair

Cooler Master has bad PSU unless it's gold

Drop to 650W Gold or 750W Gold

No more, no less

Rosewill is a reputable brand as well

It's good to have a little elbow room in the PSU. This was it doesn't make any noise (hardly). 750-850 is fine, but I wouldn't personally go 650W, if I wanna "futureproof" the rig.

You can save even more $$ if you go with the 3570k instead of the 3770k, trust me it's more than enough for a gaming only rig & it's very overclockable. My 2500k performs like a champ in gaming & this processor (3570k) is about 5-10% faster. This would leave you xtra to get a good mobo, like this. That has everything you currently need to build the beast devilsmiley.gif

I don't have personal experience with cooler master psu's but I've heard bad things as TinDaDragon stated. I could stand by Corsair/Antec. You should also try to get a modular psu to make cable routing easier. You got that covered already thumb.gif

Any of these mobos?

Asrock
Gigabyte
Asus

So basically why would someone go x79 instead of z77? Sandy vs Ivy.
Does the x79 have more upgradibility? If im building a kick ass machine, it should last me 3-4 years or more.

I believe x79 is for people who want to overclock more. Especially the RAM, which is not anything you gain performance on, if you're mainly going to use the computer for gaming.

EDIT: Oh, and I have the Asus Z77 Sabertooth. The Thermal Armor on it, looks really good. It is also protecting the motherboard, and the integrated fan system that follows with the motherboard, keeps it really cool.

I think Linus covers some points on the Sabertooth in this video:

Oh, and the Thermal Armor also looks really good. Very smexy aesthetics! thumb.gif
