i3 2100 Vs. i5 2400 | Mainly regarding Guild Wars 2 Performance.

Thread Starter
My system now has an i3 2100 and a XFX 6870, 6GB 1333 DDR3. Currently I'll only be playing Guild Wars 2. I've been getting acceptable FPS in Semi-High settings, not Ultra and w/o FXAA.

Is it going to be a beneficial upgrade if I got me an i5 2400 now?
Keep the 2100, there would be no noticeable difference going to a 2400.

Save for something better. Guild Wars 2 loves processors and if that's your main goal you want to get better than that for max.

I run i3 2120s in my servers, I've never really considered them a processor for someone wanting to max games completely out with good FPS, especially CPU-bound MMOs . The 2400 isn't really going to make a world's difference.

I'd save up for a i5 3570k or i5 2500k and overclock it, after that it would be quite a bit better. I believe they are only about $30-$40 more?

I sort of knew that, but wanted to make sure. But why is it that, not a lot of games utilize quad cores? the 2400 is nearly double the specs of the 2100 and yet not double the performance, not even close.

I agree with the others, keep it and save up for the next gen. There's not a large performance upgrade.
If you're wanting to upgrade, I'd go straight to a i5-2500 or i5-2500K (if you care about overclocking).

The problem is, I would need an OC mobo.

That was very true, but just about every new game being released supports 4 cores. These days, there are a lot of games that benefit from a quad core, some people still need to realize that a quad core is the standard today.
