Looking for monitor suggestions

Thread Starter
I am looking for an overall duty monitor. I watch a few movies on my PC, game a good bit, does some minor coding, youtube, etc. Right now I am using an older 30" monitor, and with my new system I want to get a better monitor. Right now I am looking at these two:

http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=12556209&cac=Result

http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=11699814&cac=Result

The monitor is for my sig rig, so I don't think the resolution would strain my system gaming (That being said, I do want to continue playing at max setting for at least 3 more years). I am not dead set on either of these monitors and would love input. I am not a super hardcore gamer, but a monitor better suited for gaming would be a big plus. Size wise, I am guessing the 27-32 range would be my best bet - but again I am open to any suggestions. Price range, trying to stay under 1200.

Defiantly the HP one it has a much higher PPI since the 30 inch one is only 1080p (I think).

Definitely the HP. That Sharp Monitor is only 720p which is really poor nowadays for such a big monitor. The HP is 1600p and almost the same size. Definitely get the HP.

That Sharp is more for commercial use in waiting rooms and different places like that. it would be very bad for PC use, please don't get that monitor. 720p for a 32inch when sitting close to it will look horrible. Even sitting far away. Some people would say even 1080p is not enough pixels for desktop use nowadays. I think a 1080p 27inch monitor is great for just gaming but higher res would be nice for desktop use and games also. The reason i went 1080p is because I hate motion blur in games and that was the highest res monitor with 120hz refresh rate.

I also just looked at your gpus and since you spent that much on gpus it would be an absolute waste to get a 720p monitor. Even for 1600p single monitor sli 690's are way overkill, you should get the highest res you could possibly afford and should even think about 3 monitors.

My intention is to get a monitor now and a second one a couple months from now. I really appreciate all the info guys smile.gif I know very little about monitors.

Edit: My main fear is that even with and SLI of the GTX 690s, with higher resolution I might run into VRAM problems. Not sure if this really applies to single monitor or not though.

I'm not saying you will have vram problems but that's one reason why I went with sli 4gb 680's instead of a 690.

I'm sure you will be fine though.
