you don't need a 3d printer to make a one time use cheap gun. in fact you don't even need a gun license to order gun parts from the internet. any criminal could in theory build a fully automatic weapon, given they have the knowledge. this plastic 3d print gun isn't much of a threat, 3d printers are very expensive, how many people actually own them? opposed to anybody who could just order gun parts?

This is an awesome idea because it means the government will never be able to take away all your guns. Unless it can make military rifles though I don't really see the point. Its a good start but building parts of a weapon that only fires a few times is not enough. Being able to print bullet proof vests or camo clothes seems a lot more worthwhile than a one shot pony. I still think hoarding and hiding caches of guns and ammos is a better idea though. A lot of people seem to have forgotten how bad things can get since we live in such a peaceful time. And since the government has even better technology we need technology that is able to fight that. British soldiers with rifles versus minutemen with rifles was at least comparable. I don't think hunting rifles and semi automatic rifles are going to stand a chance vs any US military squad or any other govt for that matter. But if you can melt down scrap and print weapons and bullets, like how they melted down toy soldiers to make balls for guns before, you have a fighting chance.

I'd honestly rather not have raccoon eye'd, seemingly paranoia crazed people having free access to a gun at any time, but that's just me.

Yeh the only thing worse than that would be millions of raccoon eye'd seemingly paranoid crazed people in control of the US military or govt. Some guy shooting up batman is gonna be stopped by the police. Who is gonna stop the US military? The unibomber didn't even use guns and Im sure the batman guy would have just used bombs since he rigged his aparment with them too. Crazy people will be crazy. Criminals will be criminals.

Not to get all political but, the U.S. needs a serious overhaul of it's gun laws.

Just get rid of them. I heard even Canada is getting rid of its 2b$ gun registration system.

Hmmm I think we should make drugs illegal now that I think about it, that way there won't be any drugs!

Anyone who thinks that acquisition of firearms can be significantly controlled in a nation with at least two firearms for every three people is a fool.

And, of course, improvised firearms are already common, easy, and nearly free.

As an avid hunter and gun owner, this idea is to say the least terrible!

My first thought is a convicted felon, with a minute level of intelligence of CAD / 3D printing software would be able to make a firearm, thus could go out and conduct another crime.

in short this idea would be giving criminals firearms for free.

I hate to even go so far as to say the nut-cases like the recent Colorado shooting, (I admit that is a entirely different topic)

Do I think government should "crack-down" on gun control? Absolutely not!

Do I believe in Open Source software Absolutely!

I feel the above statements are not contradicting, (concerning the topic @ hand).

There are certain things better left away from the general public.

Personally I feel the guy in the video / friends of his, are just attempting an elaborate "legal" ponzy scheme - legal being a loose word anyways.

In all honesty if this were to go viral I think the government bureaucrats would have a swift hand.

This idea would just give the Anti-gun groups another 1-up, i.e. "another good reason why we SHOULD have more strict laws / regulations of firearms." Which is ridiculous!
