[OBR] AMD FX2-8300/6300 (Piledriver Vishera) desktop processor is the last performance desktop... - Page 2

This is likely not true.

They need performance architectures to scale up and down for their server market.

Therefore they use that architecture for desktop parts as well to fill another price point in the consumer market. They don't really spend a lot in marketing any more so I can't see how this is an expensive market venture.

Though I do believe it is better for profits if they shift focus to mainstream parts (which is what they are already doing).

sure have it's a health savings account. So if you are going to through out a random initialism, then assume it will be associated with the most commonly used one.

Server chips are going HSA too. Its public knowledge that AMD is going entirely HSA, ie APU.

That's not true either. Mainstream products have small margins while high end products have much larger margins.

An i5-2500 and an i7-2600 are the same die, cost the same to make. But the 2600 earns Intel an extra $100 dollars.

And they will have performance APU parts. That's the direction AMD is going in. It's not like they're entirely quitting out of the enthusiast desktop market. Their processors going forward will be HSA enabled APU parts, as the architecture of Bulldozer is not meant to be a standalone CPU part. It is meant to be put with an iGPU for HSA computing.

I highly doubt that would ever happen, ESPECIALLY if AMD still exists. Their APU's will still be out there for the "mid range". And I guarantee if 2500k's were $500 right now many people would choose an unlocked $110 AMD quad core apu instead.

Even if this was true it wouldn't really matter all that much.

APU doesn't somehow automatically mean bad and integrated graphics don't necessarily mean bad CPU performance. You only need to look at all the 2500K/3570K/2600K/3770K rigs on OCN to realize how many people are already running 'APUs'.

But anyways, Unless AMD is doing something really drastic right now I would still expect to see high end server dies without graphics for a while...
