That's what Intel effectively did, 1155/1150 is just all mainstream CPUs, with 2011 being for server/workstations whereas AMD has (iirc) G34, C32, AM3+ and FM2.

Only problem I can see with that is PCI-e lanes. You can make a x8/x8/x8/x8 motherboard, then if you have a trinity APU, you can't use all the sockets due to it having to use those lanes for the iGPU.
