Nvidia's cuda is pretty widely used, but much less programs supports Stream.

Except the goal of HSA is to make it appear seamless to the programmer, so there will be minimal, if any, new language needed.

FX2-8300/6300 processors for socket AM3 + are the last competitors against Intel-DT platform

I'm rolling my eyes. Seriously, his wording is just unbelievable.

Everyone seems to be forgetting what AMD is trying to develop on the software side of things: HSA.
This is only the beginning of balanced AND unparalleled performance.  AMD is upping their game against Intel by scrapping desktop CPUs and selling only APUs.

Quote:
and in the future will launch only APU with mainstream performance!

These words are taken out of context.  The cancellation of CPU-only parts does not mean AMD will resort exclusively to manufacturing their APUs for the mainstream segment and ignore the high end segment.  It could be possible for AMD to develop that top tier segment competing against CPU with APU. This could be true with or without the forefront of HSA. AMD hasn't said anything regarding that, and I think that this is far too big an assumption to make from whatever information.

Consider, everyone: AMD can fit an (improved) FX-4100 and an HD 6670-6750 into a 65W TDP.  It's called the A10-5700 and you can't argue with that because it already exists.  If AMD can do that in 65W, imagine what it could do in 125W with process node improvements, higher applications of RCM, and design improvements. We could be seeing in the near future, within a 125W TDP, 8 CPU cores with competitive performance in addition to HD 7770 class GPU performance. OBR has written this article to make us believe that isn't possible and that is just unbelievable. You can't take the words out of context and claim it as bad without knowing about the big picture of things.

I would like to reiterate what he just said....

Steamroller is just the name of the CPU core; Kaveri is the codename of Trinity's successor, the APU that will use Steamroller cores. The reason that everyone thinks that AMD is completely getting out of the CPU-only market are roadmap shots like this which don't show a Steamroller-based FX being released in 2013 and AMD's comments that they're deemphasizing trying to defeat Intel at raw x86 performance.

It could also simply be that AMD is waiting until either late 2013 or 2014 before they release Steamroller FX, as they've already said they want to pursue a tick-tock like strategy:

Tick: Core A released in mobile segment (Trinity)
Tock: Core A released to higher-end desktop segment after refining in mobile (Vishera)
Tick: Core B released in mobile segment (Kaveri)
Tock: Core B released to higher-end desktop segment after refining in mobile (Steamroller-based FX)
Tick: Core C released in mobile segment (Excavator-based APU)

and so on and so forth...

Yeah everyone thought OBR was lying (well most people did), including myself, and even the moderators who continually removed OBR benchmark threads. It was pretty sad and scary when they turned out to be true.

That thread is quite a laugh. you see 2 moderators quoting the TOS to him about how you have to post "factual information" and his info turned out to be more factual about the AMD processors than what JF-AMD said. Pretty sad and tragic turn of events for AMD and the moderation here.

Yeah JF-AMD pretty much lied to our faces. of course he claimed he had old information...lol. That was the first and last time I will ever get excited for an AMD cpu. I put off buying a 2600k for almost an entire year because of his miss information.

Yeah same here and I was an idiot and bought a 990 AM3+ board in anticipation. Last time I do that.

However I think that AMD should focus on APUs ... Thats where the future is. They should give up CPU investment and go straight to APU only and Ive said this a lot in the past few months! Everyone thinks im crazy.

i'm not saying its won't be true, I'm just saying that things move fast the tech world so whats 'true' now is bs 2 months from now. in the end, we won't have any clue until something actually happens, ie october next year and no sign of a steamroller launch, or amd announces they will launch. what happens in amd tends to change by the minute these days. ultimately, we have no idea whether there will be any updates to am3+ after piledriver. even armed with everything amd knows now, we still wouldn't know, because they don't, even if they have 'plans' at the moment. all is subject too change. what happens in steamroller largely depends on what happens when piledriver hits the streets. this is a rumor thread, and for good reason- we don't have any idea whatsoever whats going to happen.
